You! Who? Barack 's Story

by   sj1and0 ,  Oct 15, 2008
Pros: Intriguing.
Cons: None!
The Bottom Line:

the book, it was good.

Review: I have an excessive appetite for knowing more about whom our presidential candidates really are, and I thought how better to find out then to read his book. Just like everybody else who holds an idea in their mind about the world in which we now live. ...

"Between my black and white worlds"

by   aohcapablanca ,  Apr 27, 2008
Pros: Barack Obama's life to age 26 helps readers understand the 46 year old presidential candidate.
Cons: Obama arbitrariy plays down his white American ancestry in favor of his black Kenyan genes.
The Bottom Line: Barack Obama's career is now far beyond 1995 when DREAMS FROM MY FATHER APPEARED. Yet he is the same man: brooding, introverted, articulate, idealistic, hopeful. The book unlocks the candidate.
Review: On August 4, 2008 Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. will be 47 years old. As of the spring of 2008, the junior U. S. Senator from Illinois leads Senator Hillary Clinton in the competition to be Democratic Party candidate for President. Questions are asked ...

Dreams From My Father

by   sherryholt ,  Sep 17, 2007
Pros: enlightening, powerful
Cons: sometimes overly elaborative
The Bottom Line: Is powerfully written and brutally honest. Delving deep into the reflective heart and mind of Illinois Senator Barack Obama, worth reading.
Review: The thing I find most daunting about this book is just how beautifully Senator Obama can write. I first purchased ‘Dreams from My Father,’ at a local bookstore, just perusing. I had seen his name and face displayed everywhere: on prestigious magazine ...

Changed the way I see the world

by   hockeyguy61 ,  Feb 22, 2008
Pros: An easy and quick read
Cons: Wish it were longer
Review: I live in Canada but have gotten into Obama-mania as much as the next guy. This book has changed my life. The way Obama articulates his empathy for what others are thinking and feeling throughout his upbringing really gives one a plethora of thoughts to ...

Barack Obama's Search for Identity

by   Bryan_Carey , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  Apr 22, 2007
Pros: Perceptive; Thoughtful; Full of wisdom
Cons: Some parts drag and are too detailed
The Bottom Line: This is a very good book about Barack Obama and his interesting childhood and young adulthood.
Review: Growing up in a bi- racial household would certainly have its share of ups and downs and it often leaves children and other family members torn in different directions, especially if the marriage doesn’t work out. This social setting not uncommon in ...

A Thoughtful Story Of Discovery

by   mountainfamily ,  Apr 6, 2008
Pros: Thought provoking. An excellent way to learn about the author.
Cons: Some characters are composites of people the author has met.
The Bottom Line: A journey of self-discovery and development that is worth reading.
Review: While this book is similar to an autobiography, its main focus is the author's journey to discover the mysteries of his father and to find his own place in life. With thoughtful and emotional words, Barack Obama relates to the reader his journey of self ...
