The best way to relive the TRUE spirit of Xmas

Dr. Seuss created one of the best Christmas books out there for young children and it has truly stood the test of time. Every single year for as long as I can remember my mom and I have read this timeless story together. When they came out with the animated special on VHS we bought it and now we watch that every year. I enjoy it more than the countless versions of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol"
In the busy bustling Christmas time it is really easy to forget what the true meaning of Christmas is. Even for those who are not religious and choose to celebrate with Christmas trees and Candy Canes, Gingerbread and Santa, it is easy to get wrapped up in the commercialization of it all. Dr. Seuss shows us the meaning in a fun way that even kids wont tune out.
Seuss has always been a wonderful writer with his rhyming style and creating new words that wouldn't make sense to anyone but a child or a child at heart. It is too bad that we will not get any new books out of such a great author. I truly mourned his death, it was a sad day for children's literature when he passed away.
What a fun scrooge-like character the Grinch is. With his green furry body and his grumpy nature. What a fantastic explanation for his behavior, maybe the Grinch is not the only one with a heart "Two sizes too small." My favorite was and is Max his trusty dog that unwillingly becomes a "reindeer" at the head of the sleigh.
The true fun is in whoville with their trinkets and toys and their feast of Roast Beast. And what who could forget Cindy Lu Who with her "coo like a dove" and her innocence in believing that the grinch is truly Santa Claus come to fix their tree and the "light that would not light on one side"
When the Whos fail to cry out "boo hoo" and instead begin to sing and the Grinch suddenly sees that it's not packages and ribbons and bows that make Christmas it is a truly awesome moment. His heart grows and he rushes to Whoville to fix what he has done. I can hardly think of it without bursting into a smile. Christmas is a feeling not a thing wrapped in pretty paper.
I truly love this book and recommend it to everyone. Its a terrific gift that keeps on giving. Give this book to every child you know that doesn't already have a copy of it. If they are too young to read it, read it TO them! It is such a wonderful story.
