Names Are Important But Character Counts

Date of Review:  Jan 31, 2002
The Bottom Line: Although not as good as A Wrinkle in Time or A Swiftly Tilting Planet, A Wind in the Door examines some difficult issues and is well worth reading.
Review: A wise man once said "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet" but would it really? Is our name unimportant? I myself have used three names commonly in my life. Each has brought out different qualities of my personality, made me think of...

Review: Have you ever heard of a Tesseract? This book makes you believe that inter-dimensional traveling is as easy as walking. All you need is a clever little boy, named Charles Wallace, a head strong young lady named Meg and three women named Mrs...

Sequel falls disappointingly short

Date of Review:  Jun 12, 2000
Review: When I read A Wind in the Door, I was sorely disappointed. For some reason, L'Engle's writing wasn't quite what it had been for A Wrinkle in Time or any of the other books concerning the Murray/O'Keefe fan.

If I had not read any of the...

A Switfly Tilting Series

Date of Review:  Oct 27, 2001
The Bottom Line: Great sequel for young readers. Adults will not find it satisfying to revist, however.
Review: Madeline L'Engle's book, _A Wrinkle In Time_ was an absolute gem, mixing the starry-eyed glitter of fantasy with ghost-story tension and a science-fiction twist. The second book in this series takes the reader further along on the journey with the...

More than a sequel...

Date of Review:  Apr 4, 2000
Review: "A Wind in the Door" is more than just a sequel to Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time" and more than just the second installment in her "Time" series. It is a fabulous work that more than stands on its own.

Of course, if you've read "A...

a great sequel

Date of Review:  Feb 1, 2000
Review: This is a great sequel to A Wrinkle in Time. The characters are a little older and a bit more adventuresome. I found it a bit more complex but still simple enough for most preteens to be able to follow the story. Overall I didn't like it as well as...
