I have had my Zire 31 for almost a year now. I had zero experience with PDAs before this purchase and didn't really know what to look for. In making the decision to purchase this handheld, I wanted something that was compatible with Weight Watchers On-the-Go program, which this worked very well with.
First of all, this handheld is small and lightweight. It fit well in my purse, didn't take up too much room. The screen is color and is sharp and clear. It is easy to change color schemes to suit your taste. Some colors make it easier to read, some harder. It's a personal choice. I got mine on Tiger Direct for about $100 as a refurb model. It came with a charger and a software disc. That's it.
Looking at it now, I'm not really sure which software came standard on it. I am running Palm OS software v. 5.2.8. I'm sure there is something newer and up to date, but this serves its purpose. The memory is 14M and has a slot for an SD card, which can expand the memory to 1gb. I have used a card in the past very easily, and have run Pocket Tunes. The handheld has a built in speaker and with Pocket Tunes, I was able to listen to music with or without headphones.
Synching the handheld was very simple. There is a synch button on the front, and once it is plugged into the usb on the computer, just a tap and it's synched.
Overall, I have been happy with this handheld. For my purpose, I just needed something that was simple to use that I could carry with me and would not take alot of space. This device satisfies my needs. I did purchase a leather case from palm.com that protects this from scratches and wear and tear.
