Author's Review

I purchased this product recently for $29.99 on sale at CompUSA and it even worth the gas I spent driving to the store.

I had recently purchased a DVD burner and was very excited at the proposition of being able to convert all of my old home movies to DVD. That turned out to be an impossible chore with this device.

The drivers included with this hardware are very flaky and only work part of the time. They also are not Windows certified drivers which may be part of the problem. Sometimes when you connect the device it will only detect the video and sometimes it detects both but locks up the machine so badly that a hard power-off reset is the only way to recover from it.

When trying to use Ulead Videostudio 8 to capture video, it couldn't even capture from the device and using the ProPix software that was included in the device was very unstable at best.

I have no problems capturing from my DV camera or editing the video and I have plenty of horsepower...following is my hardware configuration:

ASUS A7n8X motherboard
AMD XP 2700+ Processor
512MB Corsair CL2 DDR400 RAM
Sapphire Radeon 9700Pro
Soundblaster Audigy

The video quality of this device is TERRIBLE. There are alot of obvious artifacts as well as some sort of "underwater" looking quality to the entire video. The audio also sounding "tinny" and weak.

I would not recommend this product to anyone, unless you are looking to spend endless hours getting the product to work and then getting very poor results. Unfortunatly, one of th e major players in the consumer grade video capture world (Dazzle) was just purchased by Zio (the manufacturer of this device) so I wonder what the future will hold for their products.
