Another view

I bought this scanner to replace a single sheet Epson scanner which died. Our small 6 person office (mostly programmers) uses scanners sparingly but most often we have a short document under 10 pages usually that needs to be converted to a pdf document. With the Epson we had to use Adobe to create a single multipage document.

So I was drawn to the Xerox Documate 510 which is a unit a unit that had a light duty sheet feeder. If I would have read the reviews on these pages I would have not bought this unit. But since I did not have the benefit of the reviews I bought the unit. To satisfy myself I performed a couple tests that might make some people make better decisions.

Single sheet scanning. This function is fast and just as good as the Epson
Photo scanning This function is also fast and just as good as the Epson which billed itself as a photo scanner
Multi sheet scanning. I performed this test two times. I printed a 15 page document to a laser printer, then, I took the recently fused pages and ran them through the sheet feeder. I performed it a second time. Both times it worked great. It was reasonably fast and precise with no jamming. I’ve used it about ten more times with good results.

Software. The software is good and well laid out. Since I’ve had no jams I can’t comment on recovery after jamming. This kind of control software is usually not wonderful. The bundled Xerox software is heads and shoulders better than the malevolent software I got with a cheap “networkable” HP ink jet printer. But that’s another story.
