Author's Review
There are a lot of strategy games out there for the pc and consoles that paved there way through history books, X-Com, Advance Wars, the Civilization series, and the once very popular Worms series. Though the Worms series lost its popularity in the states over the years, there is still a hardcore cult following towards this seires that exist in countries as far off as United Kingdom [while there is a decent amount of love for this series here in the states still]. This is only for good reason, for this is a very fun and very additive strategy game that just begs to be played by newcomers. Everywhere from cute graphics, excellent sound effects, and a great price are three of many pros to Worms: World Party [the 4th Worms title in the series].
Gameplay- The gameplay to this title is simple, yet hard to master. You and your opponents control a group of worms on a large and totally destroyable 2-D map. Every time your turn comes up you get to control one worm on your team and you have a limited amount of time to move the worm and use particular weapons against your foes worms. During your turn you can only fire a weapon once except for a few exceptions, like the shotgun, where you can get 2 shots off before you cannot fire it or any other weapon again that turn. The cool thing about this game is that there are 50 weapons to choose from, everywhere from the most basic pistol [which is next to useless in this game anyway] to the Holy Grenade [which makes the crater the size of Uranus when it detonates]. Besides these weapons you also have little items that can be used a limited amount of times as well. One of the most important of these items would have to be the Ninja Rope, where you can shoot a ropes in the air to keep your worm up in the air ala Spiderman style to literally anywhere you please in the map and you can STILL use a weapon if you dont waste time. But be weary, using the Ninja Rope like I said is hard at first and you can easily fling you way off earths edge with the thing if you do not use caution. The gameplay to this game can dramatically change depending on the mercy of whoever is the host of the game you playing [if you play online] because of all of the custom options that can be tweaked to your hearts content. One of the most common changes you will see online is that usually there is infinite Ninja rope for easier travel on the board, plus it is easier then picking up random appearing ammo/items boxes on the map [that doesnt even always have the ammo/items you are looking for anyways]. As you play online with this game you will meet a lot of different customized worms that will speak in different languages, have different pictures that represent there whole team, and have worms with a lot of different individual names. That by far the coolest thing about this game is the amount of customization you can apply on your worm team. You also have the chance to give your worms any language imaginable from a list as well as interesting specialized voices as well. One example of these specialized voices is one that makes your worms sound like soul brothers from the 70s. When you put all of this together you will notice very quickly that Worm World Party is the perfect multiplayer game for around the entire earth, which is very impressive to me because you dont see many online games gain and take advantage of such worldly attention expect for Phanstasy Star Online and Everquest. Also this game has a 40 single player mode that is also very good.
Graphics- Though this is a 2-D game and very simple looking one at that, it fits with this games overall feel. The little worms that you control and see have a lot of cool little animations when they are hit with different weapons. Also like I mentioned before the whole environment in Worms is destroyable with your weapons and that is very cool looking too considering how big of craters you can make with certain weapons. The only problem with the graphics in this game is that they look EXACTLY like the two prequels [ Worms 2 and Worms Armageddon]. Which is a big turnoff for me because I know a game like this wouldnt be too hard to change the graphics for at least just a little bit.
Sound- The sound in the game is better than a lot of games I have played recently which impressed me a lot, the amount of voices, weapon noises, and everything else sounds top notch in this game. It is also fun to hear worms screaming in different languages because it gives you that feeling that I dont know what he said, But I like the WAY he said it. There isnt much music in this game, but it is forgivable for the excellent sound.
Overall- This is an excellent game that can be bought for only 10 bucks [with it s two prequels as well, no less], just look for the single jewel cased Worms Triple Pack and get prepared for the fun that awaits you. Once you get these excellent games just remember that I sent you [If you are looking for me online, just remember I am Zer0 and I would glad to play with you]. Just a small note that Worms 2, Worms Armageddon, and Worms World party are virtually the same expect for new weapons and some other small changes.
