"Sometimes I dance around my apartment in my underwear... doesn't make me Madonna."

by   alexdg1 ,  Jan 10, 2005
Pros: Fine all-around performances from cast; great script; Nichols' directing
Cons: None...but the shots of 1988-era NYC will be jarring to some viewers after 9/11
The Bottom Line: Working Girl is a clever, romantic, and funny romantic comedy that, despite being formulaic, still instills a feel-good sensation to its audience. "Let The River Run!"
Review: I first saw Working Girl in late December of 1988; it was my first week home after my 88-day study-abroad stint in Sevilla (Seville), Spain, and my friend Betsy Matteis knew I needed to get out and have fun after being in a foreign country and ...

I Have A Head For Business, And A Bod For Sin, Anything Wrong With That?

by   kristinafh , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jan 13, 2002
Pros: The snappy, witty dialogue. And Joan Cusack is hilarious.
Cons: It can be cheesy in parts. But you'll get over that.
The Bottom Line: You'll enjoy this nice, feel good film from the 80's.
Review: Preamble
This must be the weekend for me to catch up on my old, 80's favorites. First Less Than Zero and now this....

I love the movies of the eighties, especially those that fell into the romantic/comedy genre. If you...

This Working Girl Loves It

by   catherar ,  Sep 27, 2002
Pros: It has all of the elements that make a great chick flick.
Cons: If you're looking for a thought provoking movie, this may not be it.
The Bottom Line: Not Academy Award winning material for the 2000's but still stands on it's own as a fun, spirited movie.
Review: For me, there are a few essential items that make a good chick flick. This movie has all of them:

1. An arch-rival; some one who gets under your skin so much that you want to see her ruined... and you do.

2. A makeover; drab girl...

Not that kind of Working Girl!

by   mgscmwa ,  Feb 8, 2001
Pros: Working Girl is a heart warming film.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Working Girl is a film I can recommend because of it's wonderful heart warming story line and great performance by Griffith!
Review: Melanie Griffith's one masterpiece performance is in this very funny and heart warming film, Working Girl. Tess (Melanie Griffith) is determined to make it out of the secretarial pool and into the business world. The road is hard and filled with...

Krista's Working Girl Opinion

by   kansasgirl12 ,  May 31, 2001
Pros: Entertaining.
Cons: Short on movie guts.
The Bottom Line: See it for the happy ending.
Review: The casting in “Working Girl” has a curious little twist to it. Sigourney Weaver plays the ideal demon-like fairy tale bad lady, and Melanie Griffith plays the ideal woman with some good ideas who no one will take seriously. But Harrison Ford, arguably...

Yes, Melanie Griffith makes a good temp

by   Andrew_Hicks ,  Sep 16, 1999
Pros: Sophisticated performances from Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver
Cons: Sometimes a little *too* '80s
Review: Hot on the heels of Wall Street was Working Girl, the romantic version of Oliver Stone's 1986 film preaching the gospel of greed. This is a world dominated by talk of mergers and acquisitions, arbitrage and million-dollar negotiations. It's a world...

Cheaters Never Prosper and the Meek Shall Inherit

by   lazario ,  Sep 25, 2005
Pros: Powerful performances, good underlying message, original and unique
Cons: Loses it's drive, not fun, underwritten characters, too long, occasionally boring, really bad theme song
The Bottom Line: Works so much on the business side that there's not adequate time for romance to blossom, so it needs to get it's mind out of the gutter.
Review: What hurts Working Girl? The entire relationship between Tess and Jack. The entire film is an evolution of sorts. Everything goes through an important change. Some things do so even after blossoming prematurely, for instance- the relationship between ...

Every secretary's dream

by   WBDBaj ,  Mar 6, 2000
Pros: an Executive Cinderella story
Cons: not believable in total story
Review: Take Carlie Simon's opening song, "Let the River Run," and a ride across the bay from the bad section of town (hair a la Saturday Night Fever), and the opening of the movie is intriguing. That Sigourney Weaver is a bad executive boss, who...

"Working" is a stretch...

by   mculp ,  Feb 15, 2000
Pros: Amusing
Cons: Shallow, Fluff, Unrealistic
Review: This movie was amusing but entirely unrealistic. Sort of along the lines of Michael J. Fox in, "The Secret of My Success".

Melanie Griffith plays an administrative assistant (secretary) who creates a false identity and deceives her...

This Film Never Works

by   chad8246 ,  Dec 23, 2000
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Melanie Griffith and an awful plot
Review: I had forgotten how thoroughly unentertaining Working Girl is until I watched it again this weekend. The unfortunate thing about the film is that it has two personalities that I normally enjoy-Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver. However, it also...
