Author's Review
The newest addition to our Wiggles video collection is Wiggly, Wiggly World, and once again I'm...er...my kids are giving this one a big thumbs up.
The Australian fab four is comprised of:
Greg Page-The lead singer wearing a big smile and a yellow shirt.
Murray Cook-In his red shirt, my...er...my kids' favorite Wiggle plays the guitar.
Anthony Field-Sometimes spotted behind a drum set, the blue shirted Wiggle sure can jump high.
Jeff Fatt-Wearing purple, the perpetually sleeping Wiggle plays the keyboards and sometimes the accordion.
As usual, The Wiggles are joined by Captain Feathersword the friendly pirate, Wags the Dog who dances but doesn't speak or sing, Henry the Octopus and the rose eating, tea drinking, giggling Dorothy the Dinosaur.
As an added treat, The Wiggles welcome several special guests including Slim Dusty who is an Aussie country music king, Christine Anu, Kamahl, Tim Finn (Crowded House and the Split Enz), Jimmy Little and Atsuko Arai.
Wiggly, Wiggly World showcases many types of music:
I Love To Have A Dance With Dorothy and One Little Coyote have a country and western flair. Who knew dinosaurs liked to line dance? Greg looks ever so charming on his hobby horse.
Taba Naba has a tranquil island sound complete with gentle arm movements and a beautiful performance by Christine Anu.
Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport is lots of fun as the guys say "G'Day" to special guest Rolf Harris and his "wobble board."
Sing With Me proves that man and dinosaur can sing together in perfect harmony.
Six Months In A Leaky Boat is a "wiggly ode" to Captain Feathersword and WILL get stuck in your head. Not exactly the original version by Split Enz, but a wiggly version.
Morningtown Ride with Jimmy Little lulls you to sleep as the "big red train" chugs by.
Haru Ga Kita means "spring has come" and is a Japanese song.
And yet a few more songs you'll keep singing...
In addition to the songs I've mentioned, there are some undeniably wiggly staples like Let's Go (We're Riding In Our Big Red Car), In The Wiggles' World, In The Big Red Car We Like to Ride and Here Come The Wiggles.
The good Captain Feathersword shows his usual silliness with Hey, Hey, Hey We're All Pirate Dancing, Blow Me Down and the ever popular Another Cuppa (Dorothy's Rosy....what comes after 'S'? What do you hit a golf ball off of? TEA...)
And then there's Murray's Starry Night...*sigh*
And now I'll gush some more!
Okay, I'll admit it. I like watching Wiggly, Wiggly World with my kids. I'm also partial to a certain Wiggle who wears red...(Did I really just type that?)
Of course, the mere fact that this is a video by The Wiggles is reason enough to recommend it, but incorporating diverse guests and children of all ages makes a good video great. Sure, the props aren't sophisticated, the costumes often simple and the colors forever bright. That all adds to the charm in my opinion...or epinion...whatever!
Okay boys and girls, let's review...
As I've said over and over again (just ask my annoyed husband), The Wiggles are the best children's act you'll find. Granted, they feature a singing dinosaur, but nobody's perfect.
While some find the facial expressions and dance moves a bit silly, no one seems to mind when pop singers dance and rock stars make faces, so kids don't find this weird or funny.
Greg Page has an excellent voice, complemented by the rest of the group's harmony. The songs range from catchy to silly, danceable to memorable and most all of them are extremely singable.
Children can experience different types of music and even different cultures watching Wiggly, Wiggly World. Greg, Murray, Jeff and Anthony seem to have boundless energy and a true love of what they do. No wonder they are so huge down under!
Needless to say, I highly recommend Wiggly, Wiggly World to delight your kids, encourage singing and dancing and to keep the whole family wiggling happily.
