Cabrio stinks
Date of Review: May 14, 2007
The Bottom Line: Spend less on a traditional washer and replace it every few years.
I have owned the Cabrio washer and dryer combination for 9 months. The dryer works fine but no better than the old $400 dryer that it replaced. The washer is another story... In an effort to offer the most sophisticated appliance on the planet, Whirlpool fell short on this one. The clothes are so knotted up, it's not to be believed. If you spin the wrong fabric on high speed, you permanently wrinkle them. Only another washing and drying will remove the wrinkles...maybe. Sort of negates the water and energy saving feature if you have to wash and dry twice. Finally, the display froze up and would not clear. I called the customer service line and they suggested that I reboot by pulling the plug. Tried that, didn't work. Then tried to call Whirlpool back, but it was after 5pm on a Friday. Get this, no one answers the customer service line after business hours and no weekends to boot! My recourse was to look up the president of Whirlpool North America. Thanks to the internet, I was able to call his home on a Saturday morning. Of course, he didn't call me back, but a nice lady did, on Monday. She set up a service call and the technician (a local independent service tech.) was outstanding an fixed the problem. These machines are too sensitive !!! The designers forgot that they weren't going to be used at NASA, but in plain folks homes to wash their clothes. One more problem with this thing and I will pay a freight company to deliver this thing to Mr._______ front door.
