All the bells and whistles, but freezer problems

Have always found Whirlpool appliances to be good quality, so purchased new Whirlpool refrigerator to replace 20 year old model. Good looking machine, seems to be well made, refrigerator portion of machine works well. But real problem with freezer. Defrost cycle is so hot for so long that it melts the ice cream. Raises concerns about spoilage of other foods in freezer.

Rather disappointing for a $900 machine.
