Whirlpool Gold GB2SHDXT (21.9 cu. ft.) Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

We had a bottom freezer refrigerator in our house before so when we moved and needed a new one - this design was high on the list to consider. We still debated the side-by-side vs. freezer on the bottom, but freezer on the bottom won.

As we are renting - we wanted to get the lowest prices model that would satisfy out needs. Originally ordered Amana (it is really the same fridge, but did not have automatic ice maker). Unfortunately, they were on very long backorder (found out after few weeks of "checking" on the order). I went to Lowes, this fridge was on sale - and we got it (10% off + free delivery after rebate).

Now... we had it for 6 months so I can write about it.

It is convenient - most of the items are at the eye level. Basics work fine - cold things stay cold and frozen are well frozen. We keep both sections at medium setting (4). You can set the temperature separately in each section.

Door bins are large and hold fair amount of product (juice, milk, eggs, butter and more).

It does make funny noises once in awhile - does not bother us. Our bedroom is somewhat far from the kitchen though.

I was concerned about reliability from reading horror stories on the web, but so far there were no problems.

Bottom pull out freezer is fairly convenient. It is not too hard to get food from the very bottom of the shelf. I do miss the door with storage from the old one though.

Ice maker - it works. We just do not use much of ice so it is somewhat of a space wasting device as the ice cube bin is fairly large.

Negatives: it might be hard to get more than one large pizza box in the freezer as there is a divider in the bottom drawer (this is the worst I can come up with).

Overall - it is very good package for the price. You could easily pay double for the same capacity fridge.

Update - still quite happy with it after 18 months.
