Whirlpool Cabrio Model WTW6400SWO Blew apart
Date of Review: Jun 3, 2009
The Bottom Line: Never buy. My machine flipped over, tub shattered, Metal back panel flew 10' from unit, shell completly torn apart and drain pipe pulled off wall.
Below is my letter of what happened.
I am emailing you the above pictures of an incident that occurred in my home. As you can see from the pictures my washing machine (Whirlpool Cabrio Model #WTW6400SWO) “exploded”. I have contacted Whirlpool and they have sent a repair service out to conduct a report. He advised Whirlpool that the unit flipped over, tub shattered, shell completely torn apart and the back metal panel flew 10’ from the unit. He also advised them that the occurrence pulled the drain pipe of the wall and bent my water lines.
A Whirlpool safety representative has advised me to email the pictures to them which I did yesterday. They have stated that it could take 10-15 days to receive a new washer and I will need to fill out a damage form and get 3 quotes from plumbers. Meanwhile, we have tried to cover the hole so we can use our plumbing without flooding the basement. My concern here is Whirlpool has advised I would get the same make and model that just “exploded” in my house. I am concerned for the safety of others that may have this machine. Luckily, my family was not injured but I feel that Whirlpool has an obligation to its consumers to investigate why this happened.
I am hoping that putting this story out to the public will help call Whirlpool to action.
