The Whirlpool Duet is actually a pretty good machine. It does hold up well to all the punishment that it gets put through. As a salesperson for a Maytag home appliance center, I always recommend for my customers to plug these washers into an appliance surge protector rated for at least 800 joules. It is by no means a guarantee, but it does help to protect the circuit board. Also, this machine uses sensors rather than water level settings...Try to do larger loads whenever possible to avoid "confusing" the sensors. With basic maintenance, this unit can be expected to last 10-15 years. Parts are generally readily available for these units as well.
