PERFECT FOR THE LAZY LAUNDERER!

Along with my Whirlpool WTW5500S 27" Top-Load Washer with 10 Automatic Cycles and SpillGuard Top, I bought the matching Whirlpool WED5500S Dryer about a year ago. My Kenmore was just about shot and I wanted matching machines. I abhor the laundry chore. I would rather peel potatoes all day than do the washing. When I found my new washing machine, the matching dryer had a few extras that would really benefit my laundry-lazy nature, although at the time of purchase, I could only see the monster that would take my precious spare time away. However, matched together in my laundry room, they are quite a motley pair.

My Experience:

I am tough on my appliances as is my sixteen-year-old daughter. Many a time, I hear the clunk of a belt buckle or a compact mirror that has been left in a pocket when my daughter does her laundry. The heavy duty steel drum has suffered no ill effects from this abuse. I love the wide door on this machine and its strong brackets which allow you to fold at the dryer. My dryer is white and has knob controls easily explained and used. The drum also has an interior light so if I have to pick out delicates before they shrink, it is easier to see. The lint collector is top mounted and easy to slide out and clean. I suck out the vent with my vacuum cleaner (on low) occasionally to keep it clear.

As well as the regular cycles, this dryer includes cool down cycle, fluff air cycle, tumble press and wrinkle shield. The wrinkle shield is what makes my life easier. If I am busy making dinner or am on the phone and the finished signal sounds, I don’t have to stop what I am doing and run to empty the dryer before the contents become wrinkled. The wrinkle shield allows the dryer to tumble for up to 120 minutes after the cycle is finished, intermittently, so your clothes never become wrinkled no matter how long you take to empty them.

I have found that the cycles can be a little inconsistent at times. I have found damp clothes in my dryer when the following week the same clothes would be dry on the same cycle. That is a mystery but not one that has become too bothersome.

This is a conventional, smart looking, dryer that looks great next to its matching washer. It is a very quiet dryer only noticeable at times when I dry something with buttons or other accessories. I have never retrieved any damaged items from excessive heat and wrinkles are practically non-existent.


Conclusion:

The Whirlpool WED5500S Dryer is a tough little machine with a large capacity that has stood up to the hardships of the teenage hand. The door on this dryer is practically indestructible and also serves as a folding area when you are in a hurry. The wrinkle shield is invaluable to me as I am a lazy launderer. This feature takes away the urgency of immediately emptying your clothes to avoid wrinkling.

Although I have found a little inconsistency in the drying times at times, this dryer has exceeded my expectations and has made my laundry experience less urgent allowing me to empty clothes without wrinkles when I am ready.

At $359.00, this dryer is very affordable and for this price you are receiving a quality machine with lots of extra features.
