Author's Review
After retiring an increasingly noisy and tired Kenmore Elite (top of the line in its day)it was time for a replacement. With Consumer Reports in hand, it looked like we might be buying another Kenmore...but wait!!! Sears was having a sale on Whirlpool (hey, they make the Kenmore machines anyway) Whirlpool was offering a rebate and the delivery was free. So, looking over the Whirlpool GU2700XTST-1, we liked the way the interior was designed (except for the silverware caddy that, at your option, can either be awkwardly attached to the door or just barely hooked to the lower roll out rack.) We liked the grey interior, the easily adjusted upper rack and the adjustable upper and lower racks. We also really like the delay feature so we can run loads in the wee hours of the morning.
Odd thing, though. When you select light wash the machine starts up, runs for a few seconds, stops, runs again after a few seconds and keeps up this strange cycle a few times before it begins washing. The light wash cycle--which is quite adequate for our dishes, even with dried on food--runs for about an hour. The normal wash cycle runs forever! I can't exactly remember, but it is at least 80 minutes!! So, light wash it is! The Pot Scrubber jets in the back of the machine are GREAT! Turn your yucky casserole dishes so they face the jets and it blasts the gunk right off of them. We also love how quiet this machine is since it is in the middle of our living space!
Honestly, we are pretty simple with our dish washing needs. We want a machine to operate quietly, efficiently and economically. So far, this Whirlpool fits the bill!
