I have never used a gas stove before this one. I always used electric models. But once we moved, my husband convinced me to try it, since he grew up with one. I did my research and we decided on this model.
It takes a bit of getting used to at first if you've never used a gas range before but once you get the hang of it, it is incredible! Now I know why chefs use gas and why my food does not burn anymore!
This Whirlpool Gold model comes with a super burner at 13,500 BTU, a 12,000 BTU, a 9,000 BTU and an Accu simmer 6,000.
The super burner is lovely in boiling water in no time. You don't need to leave the kitchen anymore to wait for something to come to a boil. The Accu simmer on the other hand is wonderful for slow simmering foods to perfection.
I made veal cutlets and actually didn't burn them or the pan. The constant equal heat of the gas is incomparable to an electric unit.
The oven is not a convection but having had one before and hardly used it, we never bothered. Everything comes out just splendid and even without that function. The preheat for the oven takes only minutes, so it's great not having to wait 15 minutes to preheat. The oven comes with 2 racks. You can create a half rack with one of them. So it's great if you need to cook 2 things but only require half rack for one. There is a storage drawer at the bottom that is good enough for storing cookie sheets, muffin pans and pizza pans. The oven also comes with a timer so you can keep track as to how long something has been in there for.
This range also comes with a lockout, so if there are children close by, you can lock it out so it is not fiddled with and the food can keep on cooking.
I may want to add that for those who have not used a gas range before, clean up is a bit different. Though I have used coil electric before (and clean up can be tricky depending on what the spill is), it's not as easy as the electric smooth top. But the cast iron grates do much better for cleaning than if they were the porcelain ones like other gas models.
The panel with the timers and oven light, overall, very simple to use.
I am very happy to have converted to a gas range, and even happier that I chose a model that is as wonderful to use as it is stylish. It makes a great statement in the kitchen when guests come in for sure!
