Whirlpool large capacity side by side fridge

WHIRLPOOL SIDE BY SIDE PURCHASED 1 yr AGO.
our old fridge( not a side by side) was a whirlpool, and lasted very well, so we opted for a new model for our new home. We have 5 kids so we needed a large a model as possible, but with as many features as possible yet not too expensive. Naturally you get what you pay for, in general. I think it applies to this refrigerator.

 FEATURES AND GOOD POINTS
 This model has a water/ice dispenser and our kids can help themselves easily, it also has a light. Also the temp controls are in a practical place at the top when you open the door of the fridge. This is out of reach of children. There is plenty of lighting in the fridge and freezer compartments. Also its easy to hook up you water connections, there are instructions handily placed on the back of the unit. Like most other models you do not need to worry about defroster trays underneath. It evaporates away, so you don't need to check on that. You can hear it dripping in there sometimes. This means there is less maintenance to worry about.

 NEGATIVE POINTS
This model has exhibited some quality issues since we bought it, firstly a little patch of rust has manifested on the front of the fridge door which required touching up. It spoiled the clean finish a little. Next the crisper tray, the top one began to crack, where it slides on the fridge wall. We called the manufacturer and they agreed to send a new one, but they denied there was a problem with quality, they said we will send a new one as a goodwill gesture. Its plain that the tray is weak and not capable of much heavy contents. The plastic is thin and weak.
Also one of the door bins has begun to crack and will need replacement. It is designed to carry a gallon of milk and is obviously not up to it.

FINAL THOUGHTS
After owning this a year, this fridge has quite a bit of obvious wear and tear. It works fine though, and seems to operate quite efficiently, its 'energy star' compliant. But I would say that the build and material quality of this model is fair to below fair quality. But for this size of fridge, it offers a lot of features for your money, and also capacity at 25 sq. feet.
