Where the Heart Is

My husband and I don't go to movies very often. I have a hard time justifying the price of two movie tickets when I find most movies just don't interest me enough to keep me awake. My husband had been trying to get me to a movie for almost a month when I finally gave in and went to see Where the Heart Is. My expectations were low and I was happily surprised, I actually enjoyed the movie.

Natalie Portman is wonderful in her role. She is a 17 year old very pregnant girl leaving her hard life in Tennessee to find a new, ideal life in California with her boyfriend. They begin their journey in an old junk-heap of a car, her side has holes so big you can see the road. She falls asleep and her shoes fall out. Her boyfriend gets angry at her and she tries to get his mind off it when the baby moves. She puts his hand on her belly and asks him if he can feel it and says, "That's where the heart is." She sees a Wal-Mart and asks him to stop so she can go to the bathroom and buy some house slippers because she needs some shoes. He gives her $10.00 and off she goes into Wal-Mart. She makes her purchase and when she goes out to the car he is gone, she's left all alone with $5.55 and nobody in the world to go to for help.

I'm not going to give away anymore of the story but it is really an enjoyable movie. Stockard Channing portrays the older woman who befriends her and takes her in when she needs it. Simon Bennett plays her love interest and Ashley Judd is marvelous in her role of best friend.
