It's typical for me to wait several months or even years for new technology to reduce in price before I'll buy it. When flat-screen TV's first came out, we'd hear stories of them being 25 thousand dollars, then 5 thousand and then twentyfive hundred and so on. Now we can enjoy a nice large flat screen for under $1000, a good splurge with say a tax return or bonus from work.
I was tired of my big, bulky 10-year old TV and on a whim, decided to make a run to Best Buy on my husband's birthday and "surprise" him. These Westinghouse 32 inch HDTV with LCD (flat) screen seemed like the perfect purchase. When I bought this in early 2007, it cost me $850. Now, I see it on Bestbuy.com and it is down to $629.99, which if find is a PHENOMENOL deal. My old TV was a 27" so it was nice to go up 5". First off, at that deal, I almost want to get one for my bedroom! These have a very decent sound and picture and for well over a year, it's been working great! But up next to a $1500 similar Samsung brand (higher end), it doesn't look as nice. But look past that, they are great (Samsung's pictures are clearer).
What I love about it:
*I can hang it on my wall or put it on a TV console.
*It's lightweight unlike my older TV and I don't have to worry about it tipping over and crushing my kids!
*The picture is clear and good, sound is great as well for the price.
*Price is great for everyone...especially me!
*Lasts without problems.
*Of course plays DVD's well and has HD capability.
*The screen is real durable, trust me. My son has pencilled it and drawn on it with pens several times and I sort of freaked out and got a "Magic Eraser" sponge and it wiped off easily (without a trace).
*It has a remote or you can manually turn it on/off or switch channels or volume on the side of the TV.
*It's thin enough to fit in smaller/skinny places.
*I can attach my video camera and watch my home videos on it.
*Easy to use, just pick up from a store like Best Buy, take out of the box and plug in (it can't get easier than that!).
*You can fix the sharpness and contrast, brightness and so on via the remote and adjust it to your liking.
If you would like more "technical" information like the pixels are 1366x168, you can visit Bestbuy.com and search for the Westinghouse TV's. On Bestbuy.com it has a 4 star review.
My family has enjoyed hours and hours of television watching and DVD's. I guess the "true test" of this TV was if it'll last 10 years like my last one! I was worried that after a year it would break down, because that is when the warranty (you get a one-year warranty with the purchase) wore out...but a few months later and it's still going strong. You do have the option to purchase longer and better warranties via the store (just ask the associate). You can add 80$ on up for that, but may need it in the long run, so it's up to you. I, personally have ordered warranties in the past, only to not have the item ever break down and other times, I didn't purchase a warranty only to have it break down. I hope we have about 9 more years of enjoyment on this TV! I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of the "Westinghouse" brand TV's and trust me, I was worried when I did because I had never heard of that brand (I don't usually buy the lower name brands).
