Classic...that's all you need to know
Date of Review: Nov 9, 2000
Being a new comer to the emo/punk/hardcore genre I have gained lots of info from this type of music for the 4 or 5 years I have been listening to it. Among all of the bands that I have seen live, heard on CD, met in person, no one stands out as much as Weezer. No, I have no seen them live, and no they are not my favorite band, but I do give them extreme respect on writing this first album. It is the only thing I really like about them CD wise. I got hooked when I heard "Undone" and "Say It Aint So" on MTV when I was in 10th grade a few years back, but that was all I heard by them. It took my current girlfriend to make me listen to the whole CD. It comes with me everywhere now.
Weezer
Title - "The Blue Album", or Weezer's "Weezer"
Year realeased - 5/94 (I was 14)
Tracks - 10
Hit songs on this album (by radio play and MTV) - 3
Genre - Nerd rock/rock and roll/emo/geek!
Track run down
1.My Name Is Jonas - (3:23) - One of the best songs on the album. Good opening song. This is what started the Weezer Sound. "My name is Jonas, I'm carrying the wheel"
2.No One Else - (3:14) - the classic Weezer "girl" song. "My Girl's got a big mouth".
3.The World Has Turned and Left Me Here - (4:26) - One of my favorite songs on this album and Weezer. Shows great harmony between the vocalists. "I just made love with your sweet memorites 1000 times in my head".
4.Buddy Holly (2:40) - you all know this one
5.Undone - (4:55) - you all know this as the "sweater song" - you know - "If you want to destroy my sweater"
6.Surf Wax America - (3:04) - still a good song, I am not that into it. The song repeats itself too much.
7.Say It Aint So - (4:18) - Another one of my favorite Weezer Songs. Also got MTV play. This song is covered by many punk bands in this area.
8.In The Garage - (3:56) - On my favorite list. This song talks about how he goes in his own world and does what he wants. "I've got an electric guitar, I play my stupid songs". Dungeons and Dragons and Kiss man!
9.Holiday - (3:26) - This song is not that bad, I never really got into it though.
10.Only In Dreams - (8:03) - This song helped make this album awesome. This is a great song and it is long - and quite good - the song does not drag on. Is this emo? I love this song and the ending is exquisit. A must listen.
Not only is Weezer the kings of rock, they are in almost every kids CD collection of every type of music. These guys made a huge impact on music. They are underrated totally. I think that people should not overlook them and atke a listen, even if it is once. I heard their live shows are totally intense, drawing thousands. All because of this album. Their style from their music to the way they dress is just so "high school" geek wear and it is awesome. What a positive band and album.
