This One Doesn't Get Boring
Date of Review: Jul 11, 2000
This album is pure genius, created by a genius band. If you saw the four unassuming guys of Weezer walking down the street, you probably wouldn't think they could produce the music that they do. It's seems that much of what goes on in their head's comes out in the music.
They have the ability to rile you up with huge guitars then calm you back down with soft "lullabies." On both sides of that spectrum, the three that sing- Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, and Matt Sharp- throw you their amazing harmonies on top of everything.
I wish I could say that I have been a huge Weezer fan since 1994, but sadly I can't. Of course I heard their singles constantly on the radio, and I really liked those songs (Buddy Holly, Undone-the Sweater Song), but for whatever reason I never bought the album. Now I realize that I really missed out on so many other incredible songs for the few years it took me to finally get it.
Although it is hard to pick my favorites, In The Garage, Holiday, and Surf Wax America seem to stand out to me. With Cuomo's lyrics, the listener can easily see what's going on in their own world of music, girls, and everything else.
This CD has been in my car stereo-on and off- for the past six months now and I'm still not anywhere near tired of it. Who knows how many times I've listened to it, but I somehow connect to it every time it plays. Maybe it's the desperate lyrics that I always sing along with...maybe it's the heavily emotional wall of guitars, who knows. And it probably changes every single time I listen to this album. Once again, these guys know how to make music! If you want to buy some music that rocks and that will add a little to your life, buy this one.
