Author's Review
I have recently been introduced to the big wide world of Webkinz, through three of my daycare children who own them. One owns the Frog, another a dog, and the third child owns this Leopard, which she brings to my home all the time.
Description
Leopard Webkinz is a stuffed animal, about 8" long, made by the GANZ Company. Each of the 100 or so Webkinz are unique, and this one is no different. I noticed that the dog Webkinz looked similar to the Beanie Babies, as it had small plastic pellets in his behind which enabled him to sit up. The Leopard just rests on his four feet, he cannot be manipulated to other positions.
Leopard Webkinz does not have these pellets, he is simply a small stuffed animal, and not my favorite one at that. He really does have a very cute face, with little beady brown eyes and white string whiskers, with an embroidered brown colored mouth and nose.
His nose, cheeks and chest are cream and tan colored, made of a velour like fabric, but the rest of his body is made of a leopard print fabric, (except the bottoms of his feet and the insides of his ears), are again tan velour. His tail is quite long, touching the floor, and he has long strings of fabric sticking out away from his body. If you are familiar with the "Fun Fur Yarn", this is what the fur reminds me of.
Leopard's left from paw has the embroidered "W", which is the Webkinz trademark. Two other tags, one reading "GANZ" protrude from his back leg.
Thoughts
If I were buying a Webkinz animal for a child, I would not choose this Leopard Webkinz. Although my daycare child, aged 7, loves this little guy, I think it is quite unattractive.
I like soft stuffed animals, and very little of Leopard is soft, due to the stringy "yarn like" pieces protruding from his body. He really does have a cute look on his face, but as far as stuffed animals go, I've seen a lot that I like much better than this Leopard.
The Leopard comes with a secret code, which children can use to log into the Webkinz website. There they can interact with their virtual pets, in this case the little guy looks just like Leopard. The kids learn to feed and care for their animals, and earn money by playing games so they can buy food, clothing, rooms for their homes, and a plethora of accessories for their homes.
It's an amazing website, and it very addictive. I have been spending time with the girls every morning, doing their daily Webkinz routine. If the pets don't get fed properly, they get sick, then the child has to earn money to pay a Veterinarian to care for their pet. It's really quite clever. And of course, you cannot use somebody else's secret code to play interactive online Webkinz, only one code per pet.
Webkinz animals are available online for around $15.00, but I have yet to see any in stores in my area. But then I haven't really shopped in specialty toy stores. They are cute little creatures, but I feel they are very over priced. I have purchased similar small stuffed animals for my daycare children for as low as $2.00.
