Author's Review
My son has had the chocolate lab webkinz for about 4 months now. Really the stuffed animal is just a stuffed animal. Nothing special aside from the Webkinz logo on the foot, and the tag that is very securely attached to it.
The tag attached to the animal contains a code. You take the code and punch it into the website and get a year of access. Now, here is the kicker. You only get one year. When you go buy more webkinz, and punch the codes in, you will NOT get an additional year, instead your year will be restarted. In other words, if you buy one today and input the code, your expiration will be January 2009. Then in March you buy another and input your code and you expiration date will change to March 2009.
Now for other things. Whats on the website you ask? For children, young and old, everything! There are games, trivia, a vet for your webkinz to stay healthy, a store, and even a secure chat area. The chat area allows for you to hang out with other webkinz owners but you may only say a list of prewritten phrases which you pick from the menu. My 5 yr old is too young for this but likes to hang out since people send him "gifts".
The games provide a way for Webkinz owners to get cash to buy food, clothing, accesories, house additions, toys, and much more! There are bonuses you can get for signing in everyday, and bonuses you can get if you are on at certain times throughout the day. These are routine, and you will be able to go to the area labeled "Todays Activities" to know in advance what is going on and to receive your daily rewards along with once a day games that can sometimes earn you ALOT of extra cash. Another way to earn cash is to add webkinz. The more webkinz you have, the more money you get when you add a new one.
The games are either one player or multiplayer, alot of fun, and too numerous too list. Webkinz is constantly changing thier site and adding new games.
They have daily and weekly trivia as well as randon trivia. The best thing is that if you have a younger child, 5 or so, that would like to do the trivia, and you are willing to read the questions to him (unless he can read) he can play too! The trivia has different levels and the youngest level seems to cater to preschool/kindergarten.
The Webkinz also have a house, which starts out very basic, but grows as you add to it. You can add lakes, backyards, even bathrooms! My son has a frog that actually uses the bathroom and then flushes the toilet! An act my son finds hilarious!
The store sells everything! They sell alot of stuff for your childs amusement including dressers and beds.
Aside from all the things I just mentioned, I am sure there is so much more but it is just so much I can't think of it all.
Another importanmt thing: People often ask me if the pets will die if you don't feed them. Unlike many other programs like this, No they won't. They will just be hungry when you log in. There are prizes for logging in everyday and remembering to check the Daily Care heart.
