Author's Review
When my six year old daughter was going through the Webkinz catalog, deciding which Webkinz pet she wanted to purchase next, the regular Webkinz Frog never was mentioned. She bought the Tree Frog and a whole slew of other stuffed pets, but never the frog.
That is until she completely bought into the hype about the Pet of the Month program they've started. When you adopt the Pet of the Month, you get special Pet of the Month benefits (in addition to the regular adoption items) which include a special exclusive Pet of the Month item (such as a Frosty Snow Making Machine), a special recipe food, a W-Shop coupon to get a discount on any item sold that you like and a random amount of Kinzcash (between 500 and 1000). Pet of the Month owners also to participate in special activities that are advertised on the Daily Events calendar. These range from extra spins on the Wheel of Wow to free food to free Kinzcash to extra chances to play games.
The very first Pet of the Month in October was the Frog. It was tough for my daughter to weigh the pros and cons about getting the Frog or getting another pet she would much rather get like the seasonal Black Cat. She went with the Frog and without knowing it, would receive the Black Cat anyway for the holidays.
The Webkinz Frog is hands down one of the ugliest stuffed animals I have ever seen. While it is cuddly and huggable, you definitely wouldn't want to meet one of these in a dark alley at night. . It is primarily comprised of "stringy" or "spiky" mossy green colored fabric but it also has a soft velour matching green feet and cream colored underbelly, foot pads and the front of its bugged out eyes extending off the top of its head, also in velour. Inside the bugged out eyes, you'll find two black bead pupils. Embroidered on its left front paw is the Webkinz rainbow "W" logo. This Webkinz will appeal mostly to boys who are more interested in the frog itself than any aesthetic value.
According to the Webkinz website, when you adopt a Frog, you learn a little bit about things that a Frog likes. The Frog is known for being brave and adventurous and having a good imagination. It enjoys baseball, having a sherbet bunny for a friend and loving pizza.
When you adopt a Frog, you get a special food for your pet: Buggy Jelly. This is kind of scary looking but frogs like nasty things. I know this from personal experience as a child who used to hunt for tadpoles and frogs. I had an aquarium with about a dozen tadpoles one spring.
You also get an exclusive Lily Pad Water Bed for your room plus a balloon and some Kinzcash which you can use for virtual clothes, food, furniture or even school tuition. The bed is very nice to get as an adoption gift since that's usually the first thing you have to buy for a Webkinz pet.
My daughter isn't too enthused about her boy Frog whom she named "GEORGEgreenbush". I think that's because she bought it primarily to participate in the Pet of the Month program instead of being enthused about the frog itself. I think she learned an important lesson here!
The Frog looks a heck of a lot better online than in real life. The amphibian is actually almost cute hopping across the screen and doing frog kicks swimming in the pool in his garden.
GEORGEgreenbush does have a specially themed decorated room of his own but it is still under construction. It has a lily pad theme to go with the bed. It reminds me of Longwood Gardens outside of Philadelphia.
The real GEORGEgreenbush stuffed animal doesn't get played with. As I said earlier, my daughter really didn't want the frog but bought it merely to participate in the special Pet of the Month program. My younger daughter also isn't interested in it - taking her cue from her older sister. Usually, she wants anything that her sister has. It seems to be of the same quality as her other Webkinz toys which means it is rather sturdy.
The Webkinz Frog doesn't seem to be the most popular pet as its been out for a while which is probably why Ganz chose it to be a Pet of the Month. While it is not the current Pet of the Month and probably won't be one again anytime in the near future, it should be fairly easy to find in stores, especially those who bought plenty for the Pet of the Month promotion.
