Making my old Weber brand new again.

About two years ago, while preparing my grill for spring use, I noticed that my porcelain grates on my Weber grill had begun to rust.

THE CALLING

I went to my local Home Depot and spoke with the salesman, who showed me Weber replacement grates available in stainless steel. He told me that they were great and you don't really need to scrub them. Just put them in the dishwasher and you're good to go. Just spray Pam on the grates before usage (with the grill off).

Oh, I love dishwasher safe items, these had to be mine. They were calling me. I paid about $50.00 for the pair at the time.

USAGE

I plucked out my rusty old grates and replaced them with my shiny, sparkly new stainless steel ones. I sprayed them with Pam as instructed and then barbequed my dinner.

I have no complaints with the flavor, temperature or charring with these grates. The Pam spray does not make the foods completely non-stick, but it helps.

After two years, the metal seems have not separated and were not damaged by my dishwasher usage.

THE GRATES

This model 9869 grates are sold in pairs and measure 11 3/4 x 17 1/4. They are made of a heavy gauge stainless steel. They fit Weber models Spirit 700, Genesis Silver B and C, Genesis Gold B and C, Genesis Platinum B and C (2005 model year) and Genesis 1000-3500 gas grills.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

I went online to Weber.com to find out what model barbeque grill I owned. Weber has a site that is easy to navigate, but from their descriptions, I could not find a model number on my grill, where they said it should be located. I called customer service and was pleasantly greeted by a representative, who was only too happy to help me. I told her the year of purchase and described the grill. She was able to tell me I owned the Genesis 1000. If you have any questions regarding your grill you can call their customer service at 1-800-446-1071.

BOTTOM LINE

I am ecstatic about having the stainless steel grates, which have not rusted. They work great and are dishwasher safe.
