So We Find out the Lock This Monster Is Actually a Cream Puff.

They have finally figured out a way to show where the Loch Ness monster came from. Unlike the killer whale in the free Willy, we knew where Willy came from. Through the years we have known the Loch Ness monster as a scary beast at a distance. But what the help of Robert Jacobs, and Dick Smith they brought this monster to life on the big screen. Of course this movie has an obvious plot, but it is still a good family movie. The story takes place in Scotland in the World War II era.

Brian Cox (Brian plays the elderly Angus and narrator) plays the storyteller throughout this movie, he does an excellent job getting his point across. In the middle of all of this, about the Loch Ness monster, they of course throw in a love story, just like they did in the movie Titanic. So far we have excitement and a love story, then they add animation to the mix. This is a pretty well-rounded movie for everyone to enjoy. This movie will take you back in time to the World War II era, with the additions of the old vehicle's and costumes. This dialogue fits into the World War II era.

Alex Etel, plays the part of young Angus McMorrow, he does a very good job of acting at such a young age, he misses his dad that has died in World War II. His mom (played by Emily Watson), and his sister Kristie, (played by Priyanka Xi) are trying to treat him with kid gloves. So that he does not fall into a deep depression. The boy is basically by himself when he is swimming and stumbles upon an egg covered with barnacles. He's sneaks this egg home not telling anyone, and trying to hide it from everyone. But as he soon finds out he cannot hide his secret anymore. The egg hatches and the animal inside gets larger than he expects and no longer can keep the animal inside. At first he thought it was a small puppy, but as it turns out, it definitely is not. When this animal hatches from the egg, Angus names him Crusoe. This movie will take you on a crusade to watch this water horse grow up and the boy will try to basically free him. Once Crusoe gets a little larger and Angus can no longer hide him, people start to see him and they start chasing him. They go on fishing trips and try to plot to capture and kill him.

With all of this going on with the egg, the love story between his mom and a handyman Lewis Mowbray (played by Ben Chaplin), and the Captain Thomas Hamilton of the British troops (played by David Morrissey) heats up and the boy does not know what to think about it. He is torn between both of these two men. One of them of course is the captain and he offers discipline to the boy, the other is more caring and a little less disciplined.

The special effects in this movie come in very handy. When they try to blend the real-life people in with the animated part of the water horse, they make it look so real when the boy is riding on the back of Crusoe. My kids got a kick out of this movie when they saw the water horse, and how it looked so real. The boy gives a gut wrenching performance, along with the supporting cast makes this movie have a well blended supporting cast.

This movie was rated PG, and three stars by the critics, but I would give it five stars. My kids enjoyed it immensely. It did not stay at the box office too long so I had to wait for it to come out on DVD to be able to see it. There has adventure, family scenes, fantasy, love scenes, and a little bit of history in this movie. It is directed by Jay Russell, and written by Robert Jacobs, and Dick Smith.

conclusion
I don't think that there is anything to violent in this movie, there is a little bit of violence because you have the war to deal with. There is also no bad language in this movie. After seeing this movie, the scenery in Scotland is beautiful, and kind of makes me want to go and visit the place. The special effects make this movie have quite a few humorous scenes that the kids will bust out laughing. The writing is excellent. They have also left this open as to there might be a sequel to this movie. I would highly recommend purchasing this DVD for a nice family night. You will not be disappointed.
