Author's Review
Had a waffle at a Ramada made with a rotating waffle maker. Loved that little round fellow, so I thought I should ask Santa for one, and got it. Here's the rundown of the pros and cons of this not so little guy and whether you should get one:
1. The unit is somewhat heavy, and takes up quite a bit of space. Determine if you have storage for it.
2. It's pricey, so if you're not going to use it or are saving for a large screen plasma TV, think again.
3. If you have a weight issue (I'm not trying to be personal here), this might put you over the edge, so to speak. The waffles this fellow makes are in my opinion hot and tasty like you'll never get at a restaurant. I had two one day, and I was really stuffed.
Those were the cons. Here's the pros:
1. Waffles are perfect. There is a setting for how done you want them, and they always seem to be cooked perfectly for me. Uniform cooking, uniform browning.
2. It's cool to rotate after pouring. I know that sounds royally immature, but you feel like you're actually cooking it professionally. I delve deeply into life's meaning with this bullet point. To rotate is to breath life into your waffle. Friends and family will be spellbound.
3. Easy.. It beeps when the fellow it ready to go, and beeps after you rotate it and the waffle is done. No brains necessary, except to plug it in.
4. The brushed stainless steel look is pretty nice. Even in a white or black kitchen, it looks good.
5. It has a rotary knob for crispness and an LED light to know when it's ready to cook. Knobs and lights are essential for Starships and waffle cooking equipment. It also beeps. Extra credit for that.
6. There is essentially no cleanup. They give you a cup with a "full" line on it that is the exact amount to put in the waffle maker. I once put in slightly more, and it ran out the side a little, right onto the removable tray underneath the unit. The tray just lifts right out, you rinse it, and you're done. The grids don't need any regular cleaning. You usually won't spill any, either, if you add the proper amount, which is not a brainy activity.
So, the main issues are price and where do I put it. If those issues are green checkmarks for you, definitely get this unit. You'll love it.
