Author's Review
Thursday's War All the Time was a sweeping epic that brought new life to an otherwise stale genre. The cliches of mainstream music today were shattered by this young sextet from New Brunswick, New Jersey. The sincerity in vocalist Geoff Rickly's lyrics are honest enough to touch the most hardened person of today's society. His voice is reminiscent of The Cure's Robert Smith, who is known for his wavering singing style.
Although memorable, War All the Time falls short of Thursday's previous release, Full Collapse. Yet there are several songs on the album that shine through. The first track on the record, For the Workforce, Drowning, features elaborate guitar work that ushers forth an orchestral wall of sound which is brutally violent, yet beautiful. Signals Over the Air features catchy choruses that tell of the loss of sexual identity in today's society. The seventh track on the album, This Song Has Been Brought To You By A Falling Bomb, introduces a haunting piano tune and melodic, heartfelt vocals. All in all, War All the Time is a solid album by a band with tremendous potential. It will be interesting to see what is to come from this young band from New Jersey.
