Author's Review
Whahl cordless trimmers have been around for some time now, about 15 years I believe. At every salon I have worked at, these trimmers have been a staple for most hairdressers.
When I began doing hair in 1990, they were the most reliable trimmers around.Within the last three years, the quality of the trimmers has GREATLY declined. Rumor has it that Wahl obtained new owners about that time, and cut costs, making the trimmers pretty unreliable.
What's the problem? First off, one out of every two or three trimmers a stylist has purchased has been noticeably defective immediately (simply no power: you have to charge the trimmers first as with any other rechargeable battery item, and once it is charged, you discover the motor runs much too slowly to trim hair without snagging the hair from the client's head.Clients of mine tend not to be happy with me when that happens. Sometimes, they never run!)
Then, for those trimmers that made it, by the third month, the power declines, or the motor simply quits. I have had to replace or repair my trimmers every 3-7 months for the last few years.
Why do I stubbornly continue to purchase a product that is so unreliable. I don't know...Call it "consumer recognition"...there are too many unpopular brands that are much more unreliable, so I go for the name I know. I have tried the not-so-popular brands, and yes, they run, but with less power than the Wahls, which means my haircuts will take longer...and I need my tools to perform as quickly as my hands, so I can spend more time on the details of a cut.
So, if you are not a hairdresser, and want a pair of trimmers for neck, beard, or "personal" trimming, I suggest going for the trimmers with the chord. The motor is stronger, and the quality is better. And with the chordless trimmers price tag of $35-$45, the trimmers with the chord are a much better deal for your money.

Trimmers are also useful in preventing razor nicks, or dulling of your regular leg or face disposable blade razors. If you've neglected to shave for a few days, and have that coarse hair that does a number on the blades of your razor, run over the hair first with the trimmers (this especially makes bikini area shaving more pleasant and reduces ingrown hairs "razor bumps").
