WHAT A WAGNER
Date of Review: Jun 27, 2009
The Bottom Line: This durable power steamer does everything it says it can do. It is a machine that will cut cleaning time drastically on the most dirtiest jobs.
I was in the market to replace my household mop. I have never been satisfied with mopping. The floor would be sticky afterwards, and dripping wet. Also, the cleaning products would give me headaches from the strong fumes. I heard about steam mops and began to search for the best one. I came across the Wagner 905 Power Steamer and I ordered it for $98 through Amazon. Originally I was looking for a stand up steam mop, but the Wagner is so much more than that. Mopping is just one of many things it can do.
The day it arrived to my house, I took it out of the box and read through the manual. The manual was super easy to read and only took 5 minutes to comprehend all the TO DO's and NOT TO DO's. There was only one handle that needed to be screwed into place for assembly. The cord is is nice and long. It would have been nice if it were retractable for storing. The hose is long enough to easily reach anyplace necessary. It wraps nicely around the steamer for storing. There are no filters that require to be changed out...unlike some other steamers. The attachments included are a steam plate for removing wallpaper and the following others:
Window/Tile Squeegee
Flooring Cleaning Head & Pad
Two Extension Tubes
Measuring Cup and Fill Funnel
Assorted Utility Brushes
The manual recommends to use the steam plate only for removing wallpaper. Although on the Wagner demo video it shows using it to sanitize kitchen counter tops.
I used the window tile squeegee on my back patio door. I was not impressed with it's functionality. It would much quicker and easier just to wipe windows with Windex and a paper towel. The flooring cleaning head is a durable brush with thick hard bristles. It may be too rough for some carpets, but the cleaning head most definitely brushes out any spot without a problem. The pad attaches conveniently and easily to the cleaning head. It is a durable, washable terry cloth. You'll be amazed at how dirty your floors are when you pass them over with this powerful steamer. The floor is not left sopping wet either and is dry in a matter of a minute. I've washed the cloth several times now, and it has not shrunk, which was a complaint of other mop steamers. The manual recommends NOT using this on self-adhesive vinyl tiling, or wood flooring due to the extreme heat may cause damage. The extension tubes are very study and durable. I've used them when mopping the floor. They are a tight fit although and I'm for sure a person with arthritis would have great difficulty attaching and detaching the extension tubes. Also, the trigger for steam is somewhat cumbersome for someone with small hands. There is a switch on the below the trigger provided for continuous steam, which resolves that problem for me. Of course the funnel and measuring cup are provided for the customer to fill the machine properly. I use filter water which is recommended. The machine can hold up to 48 ounces of water, and will put out 45 minutes of steam. I've been using my machine for a few weeks now, and 16 ounces of water is all I've needed...it goes a long way. Once filled with water and turned on, the steamer takes 10 -15 minutes to heat up. There is a amber light to indicate whether the steamer is ready for use or not. The utility brushes are 2 hard round brushes and 1 round steel brush. These attach easily to the nozzle. These come in hand for small crevices, grills, or tile grout. The machine can used with any of the attachments mentioned, or with no attachments and just using the steam flow from the nozzle. I've used the nozzle to clean my kitchen sink out, sanitize my dish sponges, sanitize my toothbrush, spray around sink faucets, spray the shower down for cleaning, and I even spayed the stubborn ring in toilet and with one wipe of the toilette brush afterwards, the stain came right off. It does not work miracles, but it is a powerful steamer that cuts my cleaning time drastically! Spots and crude that used to take a lot of muscle and cleaner to remove are now so simple to wipe once blasted with hot steam. Not having to use any chemicals is a plus too! Just pure hot water does the job. This was money well spent. I have three small children and the messes never stop. The machine does what it says it can without a problem. The Wagner website probides a demo video and the manual if you are interested. http://www.wagnerspraytech.com
