When you need a quick slobber knocker

Date of Review: Oct 29, 2000

Now i've heard my fair share of bad things said about this game. Now hold on a minute here! i'm a huge wrestling fan and i know my wrestling video games. Sure this isn't a "Wrestlemania 2000" or a "Smackdown!" but hey its fun isn't it?

The Good-
The graphics in this game are the best i've seen yet(for a wrestling game). The mouths open hands move just like samckdown but this time it looks real!. Although some wrestlers look scronnier then in real life (kurt angle) while others look exactly like their real life counter parts(Rikishi). The enviroments are incredible!, no other wwf game has an area where you can get run over! Or jump on backstage items(No mercy will be able to). The realism is there when playing as the big show i chokeslammed my friend on the stteel floor of the Broiler room (ouch) and he was "K.Oed" immediatly. The engine is very similair to "Smackdown's" yet the wrestlers fall down after 1 hit from a chair. Finally theres a ref and he can be knocked out (thank you THQ!)

The partner system-
I felt this needed to be in a category of its own. After you select a wrestler you select a partner. Now they use this in creative ways such as throwing you a weapon or running in. Theres also one problem since when does a friend or partner stay on the outside and run in and the ref sees it yet doesn't call it? Since i can't decide whetther its good or bad i'll let you decide.

The bad-
Control this is the one thing that plauges this game its pretty unresponsive. Imagine trying to kick out but yet it won't respond! The sound also isn't worth it no entrances ! One of the biggest things in wrestling is the entrances instead you watch them on/in the ring doing a taunt! Can you say rip-off? The "S" system isn't all that good either sure once you have 1 you can call in a person or kick out of their finishers but once you get three you simply do your finisher and if it won't work then you have to satrt all over again sorry but i'll stick to "Wrestlemania 2K's" system instead. Characters where are they? What fun is having only 20 when theres close to 70 in the WWF!?

What really s!cks is this and the royal rumble its main feature. First off who's idea was it to only count the characters you got out not the other wrestlers "Oh no thats right you want me to get frustrated!" ALso seeing the same guy come into a royal rumble 15 times made me wanna go insane!. Theres NO tag team matches, no season mode, no anything other then arcade and royal rumble.

Worth a rental and willn keep you busy until "No Mercy" and "Smackdown 2" come around but other then that its only worth a rental. Trust ME
