Raw is War and War is Hell
Date of Review: Dec 5, 2002
The Bottom Line: It's $25 for a reason, not a great game for most gamers, maybe for wwf fans.
Don't let my title make you think that I think this game is all that bad. It's not really, and if I were into wrestling I could see myself playing this game all the time when i'm not watching. But then again, I don't like wrestling, especailly WWF Raw. So to start off .. If you don't like wrestling you probably won't enjoy this game that much. On the other hand if you do enjoy wrestling this game should be fun for you for some time (until the next cheap "officially licensed" game comes out).
First of all, I got this game for free, which is the only reason I have it. I plan to sell it because it's not to my liking and it's not a good game in my opinion. If it were a good game then I'd keep it for my housemates to play because they're into team battle and cooperative fighting games (like Smash Brothers for Nintendo). But I think that this game could have used more work on the programming side of it. The game is not cheap though, as far as I can tell. A lot of work and money must have gone into this game, but I don't see much fun in playing a game that doesn't respond to your commands as you would expect.
It took me quite a few attempts to learn how to play this game (i'm not one who reads manuals). I bet if you read the manual you could learn it soon enough, but who reads manuals anyway? ;) Once I learned how things were done in the game I tried to pull the moves that I learned and they didn't seem to respond the way I wanted them to. This might be because I'm not good at the game, but who wants to spend more than an hour learning how to beat the first match in the game? The game play also got a bit repetitive (as does WWF matches). If you want to see a matchup you've never seen live or on the show before, then you're set. But for me I need more fun than that. I quickly realized that I got this game for free for a reason, and now I realize why it's listed as only $25 as compared to most Xbox games that are more than $40, often $50.
The soundtrack is great though, it got ready for the matches. The intro for each character is nice and the selection of characters and possible matches and such is great. The create-a-character area could use some work. I made a robot wrestler and he happened to be the worst build ever. I couldn't punch anybody, because he was too tall. Every punch was a miss, I guess it's possible that a tall guy can't hit a short person that well, but they should sure know how to conpensate. Frustration led to boredom, and now I'm listing this game on ebay.
great game, but not for me.
