I thought that WCW Revenge had been the best wrestling game that I've played to date, and I was hoping that Attitude would change that. Unfortunately, it did not. I was never a big fan of Warzone. The graphics were good, but the moves were just too complex to pull off. By the time you were done pressing the control pad and slapping the buttons, the computer had already ripped you a new one. I was hoping that Attitude would change my opinion of Acclaim's sports games. I was happier with this version, but not as happy as I could be.
The intro to the game is top notch. Full screen, full motion video featuring all the wrestlers and a great shot of Sable. Once in the game, the menu screen was pretty similar to that of Warzone, except for one difference. "CAREER MODE".
Graphically, this game left me wanting more. I was not really impressed when I saw the polygons were "breaking up", as the wrestlers were walking to the ring. And the detail of the crowd was not much better. There is about 8 rows of people and then black. I would much prefer to see something like Ready to Rumble when you make it to the championship match, and you are in a big stadium with thousands of people watching. The whole game seemed to have a dark overtone to it, which I didn't like. They needed to follow the television show a little closer.
As I said earlier, I was never happy with the controls on the original Warzone game. They weren't complicated moves, but you had to be precise when you did them, or the wrestler wouldn't do it. Well, they haven't really improved on this much. I have always felt that the controls in Revenge were much better. One thing that annoys me to no end is trying to climb over the top of the steel cage.
The sound on this game was good, but could have been so much better. The intro music for each wrestler was great, but other than that, the sound has not been improved much from the N64 Warzone version. The comentators are still annoying and say generic jiberish like "WOW KING, HE REALLY LAYED THE SMACKDOWN THAT TIME". That's fine and all, but DON'T SAY THAT WHEN THE ROCK IS NOT WRESTLING!!!!! Another thing I found annoying is that there is no introduction of the wrestlers. I've played the different versions of the game and haven't heard my wrestlers name intro'd once. How annoying. When I play a game that's based on a television sport, I want it to be as close to the show as possible.
