Author's Review
Ah, yes, the TrueTrack monitor that's frequently co-branded with big chain pharmacies and given away for free. I, too, got this for free with the purchase of strips. "Inexpensive strips AND a free monitor. Awesome!" or so I thought.
Speaking of strips, with each bottle of strips, you get a chip to use with your meter. No more messing with code strips because all you have to do is pop in the chip and then compare the numbers. Now that's convenience. Everybody should do that. Thats the good news, now on to the bad. On the package, it says that it only needs 1 microliter for accurate results; however, it seems to me Im using the same amount of blood as with my previous meter because the TrueTrack strips dont draw in the blood as efficiently as my old strips. In fact, if anything, these strips are prone to errors. You know how sometimes your drop of blood is a bit too small for a reading? Well, my old strips allow me the ten seconds to squeeze out another drop. Not so with TrueTrack strips. You have to be fast (like Superman fast) or else the meter will show an error message. These strips will also show an error message if you take too long prepping prior to the prick.
All right, enough about the strips, what about the meter?!, I hear you say. Glad you asked. It has a large display, takes only 10 seconds for a reading, memorizes dates and times, and if you want, you can download software or buy the kit at the manufacturers website in order to make those fancy graphs to show to your doctor. Though I kinda hate it that they ask for your physical address for the downloadable software. No doubt to send you advertisements in the mail.
Overall, I really like the meter but I hate the strips.
