Passat
Date of Review: Jun 16, 2003
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend it because of the poor reliability and expensive upkeep.
I leased a 2003 Passat sedan because it was a relatively good price and i was planning on purchasing a new car upon the completion of a business deal I was working on, and let me say, I found this car very unfcomfortable, loud, and very unreliable. Besides having a weak engine to begin with, the car had small things wrong with it that cost me a boat load to fix. For instance the fan belt for the air conditioning went a few weeks after i leased the car, and throughout the time period I drove it, I constantly heard rattles coming from the engine compartment. Also, i had to turn the radio up very loud when driving on the highway because of how little noise was blocked from the car. I had a very unpleasant experience driving this car, and I also found the seats to be very uncomfortable. Now, i'm an average sized man, I'm 5' 11" with a medium build, and i couldn't stand getting into the car upon leaving work at the end of the day, i would dread it. Fortunately, i never had to drive long distances in this car. Now, to depart from negative comments and be fair with the review, I will admit that the factory stereo in the passat is superb. I was able to turn the volume and bass up very very loud and listen to any cd I had without skips. To conclude, I would definitely not recommend the passat for comfort and reliability, but yes i would recommend it for its excellent factory stereo.
