Epinions VW Jetta TDi: Can Black Smoke be Green?

by  B_Campbell,  Jul 2, 2002
Pros: Super fuel economy (40+mpg), good looks, great interior
Cons: High price, diesel fuel inconveniences
The Bottom Line: The Jetta TDi offers an extremely robust, well-rounded package, and the new 4-year bumper-to-bumper warranty is an added bonus.
Review: Fuel Economy. Two words can sum up the direction that all automakers are heading these days. While sales of gas-hungry SUV's begin to slip, new technologies are hitting the market promising greater fuel economy, which means lower emissions. Hybrid ...

Epinions '02 TDI best yet

by  Oguard,  Dec 5, 2002
Pros: Improved switch gear. Higher torque
Cons: Fuzz magnet upholstery.
The Bottom Line: Drive at least 50,000 km (31,000 miles) per year? The added cost of the diesel is offset by the increased fuel efficiency and lower fuel costs.
Review: This is my third Jetta TDI in the last 5 years. I put an average of 80,500 km (50,000 miles) per year and find a ready resale market for them.

The latest version has a better feel to the controls; especially the linkage of the manual...

Review: My 2002 was very generously given to me by my grandparents in early November of '05 and so far, it's proved itself as the best kept secret in fuel efficient cars. I average about 33 MPG's in crowded city driving with the A/C on. Inside the interior is ...

by  vwjunky,  May 16, 2002
Pros: Great fuel Economy, Nice interior and styling.
Cons: standard sound system fair.
The Bottom Line: Love the diesel, not much hp but the torque is awesome! Will probably never buy a gas car again!
Review: My Silver Jetta GLS with all the options is a wonderful car. Gets excellent mileage with the 5 speed manual transmission. Best 54 Mpg, worst around 41 mpg. Leather interior is nice to keep clean and the heated seats are options that I did not think I...

Pros: A solid performing vehicle that is a well-kept secret. See tdiclub.com
Cons: I have not found any yet!
The Bottom Line: A great city car that runs and runs. You will not regret buying this car.
Review: I have over 25,000 miles on this car and it has not missed a beat. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this vehicle. The mileage is great and often better than what EPA ratings say. You will be able to drive to your heart's content. Yesterday I...

Epinions Best car I've owned so far

by  rcvolvo,  Mar 7, 2002
Pros: Economical. Great Styling. Fun to drive
Cons: Diesel residue on white car.
The Bottom Line: This is a great car for any one that drives a lot, any age range. I've had people stop me to tell me that they like my car...now that's something!
Review: I love my Jetta TDI...It is fun to drive, economical, comfortable and stylish. My favorite things are the supurb sound system (Monsoon upgrade), heated leather seats are awesome, manueverability, and it stops on a dime! I have had no major problems so far...

Epinions Drivers wanted? YES

by  cruiseajetta,  Apr 22, 2002
Pros: Great MPG, excellent safety, superb handling, and lots standard.
Cons: Size - could use a little more room, mainly back seat leg room.
The Bottom Line: It costs more than other cars of its size, but you get what you pay for.
Review: I've put almost 5000 miles on this car and it is delivering all the way. I'm averaging about 49 mpg (85% highway) and I'm not even babying it. It handles the curves like a dream. There's plenty of pep and it has enough power to maintain the cruise going...

Epinions Love this car with the 5-speed

by  tdijetta,  Oct 9, 2002
Pros: looks, mileage, safety, quality, handling, 5-spd manual transmission, engine
Cons: Monsoon sound system, cheap looking arm rest, rear leg room, auto tranny
The Bottom Line: Recommended, oozes quality for this class of car, Wash., D.C. to Denver with one fuel stop...wow!, avoid Monsoon sound system, 5-spd better than the auto tranny. Tops in safety.
Review: Through the first 3000 miles we have averaged 46 mpg, with a high of 51 mpg. Do not be scared away by the engines 90 hp rating, it has gobs of torque. Torque is what gets you moving, up hills, etc., think of torque as pulling power. Engine is quiet...
