Author's Review

I bought my jetta at the beginning of march of 06, it had 20,000 miles on it which was not bad for 5 years, i paid a not so bad 16,000 for mine with full coverage and bumper to bumper warranty. Let me just say this i love my jetta, like i hear many people say... Going to work just became a whole lot of fun.

Lets get started...

VEHICLE:

My jetta is a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder, manual transmission, it has a 14.5 gallon tank, the wheels are 17" with the nice fat BF tires on them and pretty decent rims. it has a nice 2 way sun roof, rear child safety doors (can be turned off), leather interior including steering wheel and shifter.
very nice dark tree green paint job. ever so lightly tinted windows, and power everything: Sunroof, locks, mirrors, windows, trunk, ect... I LOVE IT!

ENGINE:
As said earlier my jetta is a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinders, it has a manual transmission, it has a 14.5 gallon tank, when you look inside the owners manual it says: The engine is supposed to get 9,999 miles for every 999 gallons of gas which is roughly 10.8 miles per gallon. But! I have actually filled up my tank and drove it out of gas (not totally) and calculated it. I can get 400 miles on 14.5 gallons which comes to about 27.58 miles per gallon which is not bad at all in my book, the fuel that you buy for your car should be an octane of atleast 91 or higher, what ever you do, DO NOT add octane booster it could possibly destroy the engine, if you add octane booster the engine should be tuned up with specialty part to handle the extra power. The funny thing is whether it's a manual transmission or an automatic it still gets the same amount of gas mileage roughly. The vehicle is a little slow off the start (but i think it depends on how you drive it) but once it's cruising on the freeway she can get up there in the MPH with no problem, they really are quite fast cars off the line or freeway speeds, economical to boot.

INTERIOR:

The interior is totally awesome, thats all i have to say.
All leather seats with seat warmers, leather steering wheel and shifter, monsoon stereo system which is not bad, you have the option of CD player or tape, but tape is a specialty item. when driving at night i have an awesome red and blue light configuration, the back lights are blue, and the dashboard needles are red, the dashboard has a non - digital speedometer, but it does has a digital mileage gauge, and digital time which is also back lit in blue. the stereo and heater system are all done nicely in a bright red. Elephant grey leather interior with a pitch black dashboard which is a nice touch. Tinted windows (lightly) just enough to keep the sun from bothering you. power windows, power locks, power sunroof (which has two modes: fully open like a window, and arched for extra aerodynamics), power rear view mirrors, power gas and trunk lack (with safety locking system) and rear child safety windows and doors (the doors can be turned on and off). The interior seats up to 5 people, the front driver and passenger seats are adjustable for leg room, and for the degree that you want the seats to be angled, also the seats move up and down in height for short drivers which is a very nice touch. The dashboard has retractable cup holder for extra room. standard emergency brake and a glove box which is kinda small. The steering wheel comes with cruise control and a accelerator/decelerator which has a cancel switch, so if you quit cruise control for a while, and then hit the resume button it will actually accelerate you back up to your original speed. Not only that but the steering wheel has a function that will allow you to tune your radio, switch cd tracks, and adjust the volume... NICE! Not to mention it saves lives. The only real problem was the center console, it has a retractable arm rest that has a small storage compartment, a small space for the emergency brake, the shifter and the ashtray. the only real problem is its mostly all cramped together other than that it is perfectly fine.

EXTERIOR:

there not too much to talk about the exterior but a few things can be said, The exterior paint job of my car is a beautiful dark tree green (which i love), the windows are very large so you can see everything especially the front window, its practically like you don't have one. i have nice 17" rims which can be standard if you request it, and nice extra wide tires which i love because it gives you that sporty BMW look to it. most headlights comes standard in white but mine came with blue, no fog lights which i would have liked but the headlights are so nice and bright you don't really need fog lights but it would be a plus. A very nice and very large trunk capacity. the front hood has an easy acess latch. the doors can be unlocked with a remote which is literally built into the key or you can use the key itself and unlock the car.

SAFETY:

The jetta comes with 6 standard airbags 4 in the front and 2 in the back, car alarm with the alarm signal light right on the door (before the thief even thinks to steal it they will see the light), not only that but the stereo has it's own security light so no one will steal that either, the gas tank and trunk have locking feature to where you must get into the car to open them or use your key which can make you feel a little safer about your possessions. When driving the doors automatically lock once you reach about 10 MPH. Standard all wheel Anti-lock breaks. If anybody ever steals your car you can give the police your VIN number and they can locate your car with GPS, and if someone is driving the car the police can remotely shut down the car instanly and the car cannot be started again until the police re-signal the car remotely.

OPTIONS:
My vehicle was 16,000 i am on a plan where i pay 250.00 a month which is not bad for me , full coverage with a 3 year or 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which i can upgrade or re-negotiate at anytime. Let me say though that there are many many options you can get, this one just seemed best for me.

ON THE ROAD:
When you first drive the jetta you are going to notice right off the bat that the drive is as smooth as silk, like your floating on air. The steering is incredibly responsive, you make the slightest move on the steering wheel and your gonna go somewhere, but that is where i should add in that the alignment is very accurate, so if your one of those drivers that is constantly over correcting this is not the car you want to over correct with. The steering is so good, and the alignment is so clean that there is no need for over correction. Just let the car drive itself practically. I can drive manual transmission pretty darn good, so for me the acceleration on it is quite good, you can get up to freeway speeds in no time at all, and as for the freeway speeds, she still rides as smooth as silk. As for the quietness, this car is very quiet when driving, i have to roll down the windows just to even hear if it is running, when you get up into the higher RPM's though say upper 4's and 5's she can make a little noise.

Overall though the car handles beautifully. As for the breaks go there very nice and responsive, when i first got the car i went to slow down and pushed a tiny bit too hard and almost gave myself a break check. I would not say the breaks are too sensitive, because there not! I would just say that it takes a day or two to get used to them. But they work very nicely, and with standard anti-lock all wheel disc breaks, if there is an emergency you should be able to stop with plenty of time. I do have to say one thing though, the shifter takes some time to get used to, it is not like any other shifting system i have ever seen, when you push in the clutch it goes in really fast and easy and then at the last second firms up a good amount. and then when you shift it into drive. finding the balance between the clutch and applying the gas can take a little time, but that is expected with any new vehicle. Overall though i have no complaints whatsoever about how the cars drives and handles, to be totally honest, it is a new car and i am totally satisfied with it's handling.

As a final note this car looks great, runs great, and does everything i want it to do. i am more of a hefty person than most people and this car gives me all the room i need and the seat are very comfortable, the back seats can get a bit cramped, and the center console is a little small, but other than that this car is beautiful and well built in every way. if your interested in a jetta, i suggest going to a dealer and taking a test drive to see how it may fancy you. i highly recommend this car, you wont be dissapointed.
