Author's Review
With graduation quickly approaching, my parents were trying to lure me across the finish line with the talk of a new car. My heart was set on a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse with a sunroof and spoiler, something way too sporty and expensive for reality. We circled around all the options, and it was finally settled...I was getting my mom's car. WHAT?!?!? My mom's car? Not exactly a statement to make you jump for joy.
So I grudgingly released my 1988 purplish-blue Volkswagen Cabriolet (named ChiChi) and settled into my mom's Candy White 1997 Golf. I hate hatchbacks. I hate white cars. I hate feeling like my mother.
All of a sudden, the car made me fall in love. The seats were soft, it rode so quick and quiet, and the 5 speed was so easy to shift. The floormats were clean and emblazoned with the VW logo, and the cargo space was unlimited. Once we folded down the backseat to fit my boyfriend's snowboard! That is some amazing room for a compact car.
We installed a CD player and put up my dice, and there is no trace of my mom left! Even though I had stepped into this arrangement grumbling, I have fallen in love with my Golf and now obsessively clean it. I will be driving a Volkswagen for the rest of my life...this is my family's 5th since I have been alive, and there was some before and I am sure there will be more to come. They're cute, stylish, reliable, safe, fun, economical, and even sporty. Who knew?
