I love the design, but ...

Pros:  Very roomy

Cons:  A/C, transmission, and safety

The Bottom Line:  Do not buy this van unless you can afford to have the a/c fixed every year and watch out for the transmission.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars
Ease of Conversion: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

We have 4 children and need a vehicle with a lot of space. We started out with a 1984 Vanagon and loved it but there was no air conditioning. We upgraded to a Eurovan last year for the air conditioning and better safety features like shoulder straps and headrests in the back seats. Three months later the air conditioning compressor burned up and cost almost $1000 to fix. The automatic transmission is bad with a strange "clunk" when shifting through the gears. I have since learned that this is quite common for the '93 automatics. Now the compressor burned up again (a little over a year later) and the service shop tells me that they just don't last any longer than 1-3 years. Also, it is difficult to find anyone who will work on the van unless it is a Volkswagon dealer. As far as safety is concerned, I have learned that the Eurovan is rated poor for crash testing results.
