Vizio's 50" Plasma Hdtv
Date of Review: Sep 19, 2007
The Bottom Line: Appearances can be deceiving looks like a good heavy (124lbs) durable tv with a great price but has longevity issues my second Bad vizio product.
I have had my 50' vizio for about 3 weeks and up until today it was great. I had problems with a 37" Vizio lcd tv that I had for 43 days first the sound started messing up, it would cut in and out and often times would just produce a loud shrieking sound. One day I came home from work and turned the tv on and the screen was green I thought this was odd and tried to resolve it with color functions on the remote before coming to the conclusion that the screen had taken a dump. I took it back to the store where I had purchased it although it had been past their standard 30 day return policy and they happily refunded my money no questions asked, which seemed odd to me they were not concerned as to why I was returning the tv and promptly offered a complete refund. I asked if they had any others returned to which I was told "no this is the first" somehow I doubt it. I chalked the lcd tv up to a manufacturing defect and decided to get a larger model so I bought the 50" plasma initially I thought it was a great tv until today I come home from work and none of the regular inputs cable, dvd, vcr are functioning any longer the hd inputs all still work I checcked the cable input the tv's in my kids rooms as well as the one in my room all worked fine so I chased the cable it was fine. Tv still has sound but the picture is a squiggley line of black and white. The tv no longer recognizes any analog inputs so you cannot watch movies via dvd player or a vcr my kids Wii is hooked through the hdtv and it still works as well as DTV mode but any analog inputs are dead. I will be taking this tv back tomorrow I have had it for 3 weeks and 1 day I am very disapointed and since this is the second bad product from vizio I will never Knowingly purchase a vizio product or any subsidiary products again.
The Return.
Ok took the tv back to where I purchased it no hassle return (I only had it 24 days)I decided to get the philips 50" plasma instead of getting my money back or getting another vizio product it cost a little more but well worth it. I inquired whether they had any other known problems with vizio brands and I was told "we have more vizio brand tv's returned than any other." so beware I highly doubt that my experience is an isolated case and over $1000 is too much to throw away on something that just doesnt last plus this thing is a pain in the rear to move unless you have a friend especially if wall mounted, on the box it stated vizio plasma tv's watched 6 hours a day will last 27 years mine didn't last 27 days. so far the philips 50" plasma seems a much better choice the picture is definately better and the sound quality is much more refined, after a few more days of use I will write a review on it.
