Author's Review
After mulling over the pros and cons of almost every type of display available, I decided on finally getting a nice LCD TV/Monitor. I checked the local stores, read the reviews and previews online and finally came to the conclusion that the Vizio L32 HDTV was for me.
Seeing is believing and to see this television in action is a real treat. I was in awe of the brightness, clarity and overall vividness of the display model. After seeing the price, my jaw hit the floor. My girlfriend and I both compared it to the other LCDs on display (from lesser-known brands and well-known brands), and after only a few short minutes came to the conclusion that this one outshone the rest.
I bought this set looking for a good set for HDTV, Hi-def (up-converted) DVD watching, and gaming. The games look great (GAMECUBE, Xbox, PS2) running from component inputs. I've never felt more immersed while playing. The ATSC tuner does HDTV over air justice--I can now see individual strands of hair on my favorite talk show hosts.
Then we get to the DVDs. After much fiddling with the OSD adjustments, I have finally come to realize that while viewing DVDs through the HDMI port, the display has a ever-so-slight washed out look. Nobody else has noticed it but me, but it is for sure there. It's as if the contrast decreases and the blacks turn to dark, dark grey when viewing content from the HDMI port. Otherwise DVDs have never looked nicer.
This set comes with an amazing set of speakers built in (though a decent home theatre should only give it justice). The overall design is clean and refined. The weight is low, but the television feels sturdy. The remote is easily navigated and fits comfortably in my hand and is also a "universal" remote to boot. Vizio has earned high marks in my book.
The fact that the warranty can be extended right through the manufacturer's website is a nice bonus. The included manual can also be downloaded online as well as the quick start papers.
Down the road this set will become our bedroom television, (after SEDs are available) but for now it is the centerpiece of our entertainment center--and a beautiful one at that.
