Product Review

Good for occasional use.

by   mrbios ,   Oct 10, 2005

Pros:  Price - if you buy it right, I paid $40 on sale at Fry's Electronics.

Cons:  Slow Scan Speed. Software - difficult to figure out. Onetouch button fails.

The Bottom Line:  Skip it definitely. With so many scanners and the list price being $70 there are way better scanner's with easier to use software.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

I installed this to a windows 2000 SP4 PC that I built back in 2001. I bought it to replace a refurbished HP 3300CSE scanner that I bought at Staples in 2002? That scanner still works but the driver was really for win me and HP never updated it for w2k. That scanner was usb 1.1 and this one is 2.0 so I hoped it would scan much faster.

SPEED: 1 min "warming up the light" start time. Scans are also very slow taking close to a minute on 200dpi setting. Hardware: one touch button often fails for some reason requiring you to initiate the scan from the windows software. SOFTWARE: Difficult to use / confusing.

I found that even thought this scanner is 4 years newer it uses basically the same old technology with no improvements.

SOFTWARE: is confusing to figure out in a bunch of ways that would be hard to explain without demonstrating in person.

COLOR: like the other reviewer - I found colors or settings were off - it is easy once you go to custom to mess settings up. I question whether it was worth it even at $40. When are scanners going to get faster? I would like a scan in 5 to 10 seconds for basic document capture. See my site for more reviews: www.WeCanDoBetter.com/reviews.shtml
