Visioneer is the worst scanner ever made!!!
Date of Review: May 26, 2008
The Bottom Line: Stay away from this bad bad product
I have over 25 years working with hardware and hooking up peripherals, going back to the IBM PC JR. and hooking up a giant floppy disc reader to it, and building a custom tape reader also. I NEVER ever had problems installing a device like this one. A customer rushed and bought this high speed scanner on a whim, and bought a waste of time and energy. Right out of the box it had problems, the locking switch or key of the light bar was in open position and would not re-lock at all. This made for the beginning of my headaches. I installed their 'driver' and software bundle package, and got many many vista errors, obviously no one at this company thought, Maybe we should plug our scanner into a computer running Vista??? NAAAAHHHH they all said and laughed as they made up stories of people trying to get it to work and cursing Bill Gates!!!
Anyways, i had to uninstall, which was no easy task at all. I found their web page, that made me download several programs just to get rid of an install!!! They were cleanup apps, like: Remove Hidden Devices, INF Clear, and Temp File Remover. I also was forced to delete EVERY usb driver i had, goodbye external hard drive!!
After 2 hours of getting rid of the install i just did, i reinstalled it again, and i got more errors!!! Now i was a pro at getting rid of the drivers and software, i tried to manually install just the twain driver, and it crashed my system, i had to do a windows restore from earlier point in time!!!! Now i wish i was a pro at putting the Visioneer scanner back in the box and bringing it back to the store!!!
There are other epinion shoppers with similar nightmare stories, and the favorable reviews must be people that still have their original IBM PC Jr. and installed it under Windows version 3.1
FINAL THOUGHT:
Here is the funniest thing i ever read in a disclaimer, right from Visioneer web page:
"Visioneer does not evaluate any effect on software and hardware not provided by Visioneer, and therefore disclaims any liability for same. Visioneer is not responsible for the content of support pages accessed through external links."
