Product Review

Undermount Viking Refrigerator

by   akaptb ,   Aug 30, 2003

Pros:  Looks expensive, and it is

Cons:  Lousy ice maker, freezes veggies on bottom shelf while top shelf is over 50 deg.

The Bottom Line:  Takes days to make ice, and when the top shelf is at 50 deg veggies freeze in the crisper. Tried contacting Viking, but they are unresponsive. Avoid!

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought this fridge to match my 48 inch Viking range. Both look great in my kitchen, but thats where it ends.
(Check out the review of the range also..problems there too.)
The refrigerator is well built and mechanically very nicely designed and executed, much better than the SubZero models that I have installed over the years, so I had high expectations.
However, this fridge does not keep an even cool internally. The top shelf of the box is at 50 degrees F (think warm beer) while the crisper drawers are at 30 degrees F (we're talking frozen veggies) If I turn up the temp to thaw out the veggies, I might as well give up on putting anything on the top shelves.
Also the ice maker takes three days to make one bin of Ice. The Viking repair people locally have lots of excuses, but If I have more than two people for dinner I still need to buy ice from the store. It would be better at this stage to rip out the ice maker and use the space for old fashioned ice trays.
I have tried contacting Viking but they have ignored me.
