Great for the nursery!

We bought this model for our newborn's nursery to help with the occasional stuffy nose but we've ended up running it all of the time. In fact, our child is 15 months old and it's running right now.

What we found is that the white noise this humidifier puts out is quite soothing for a newborn and we've gotten in the habit of leaving it on, without water, pretty much 24x7. Our child has been a reliable sleeper since about 8 weeks, but your results may vary -- there are a lot of factors that influence when a child sleeps through the night and white noise doesn't work for everyone. But it probably won't hurt.

A year later of almost non-stop use and it's still quite reliable even without the regular cleanings recommended in the owner's manual (we did these for a couple months and then started forgetting). It clogged once with dust and I had to clean out the fan area with a vacuum cleaner, but otherwise it works like a charm.

We haven't tried any other models, so we can't offer any points of comparison. We haven't noticed excess moisture in the air or any white powder on surfaces; it seems to work as advertised.

Replacement wicking filters can be hard to find at retail, so you may want to order online well in advance. We change them out every few months, more often if we've run a lot of water through it or it gets very dusty.
