Cost-effective, reliable CDMedia

I burn a lot of CD on my PC. Mostly, I make play-along CDs, 1 to 3 in a typical week for my students to play with or I make demo CDs, a couple a week, up to 50 each for a couple of showcase events I do each year, for prospective clients.

Obviously, I am looking for good yield (in other words, little or no failed CDs) for recording at fairly fast speeds (generally I use 48x) at a reasonable price. I've found that most branded CD media that I have used sounds OK. Because of the nature of what I am using these for, durability is not an issue.

I don’t have time to deal with media that doesn’t record REALLY well at fast speeds.

Usually, I'll buy these is a spindle of 100 from Buy.com, generally at under $30. There is an INCREDIBLE rebate deal on right now until March 2, 2008 For TWO 100 pack spindles, delivered for under $30 TOTAL.

I do have to mail order these to get the good price. However, at Buy.com, I'm generally able to get them in a couple of days, with free or low cost shipping.

They are billed as being recordable up to 52x speed of the music itself and will hold up to 80 minutes of CD music or 700mg of data. As CDRs, they can only be recorded once.

I have not had any problems with bad CDs or burn failures, getting maybe one or two a year. My demos include both music and data, and I have had no problem with burning them quickly and completely. My burn software for music and music with data is Nero Express 6.6 OEM for Windows, which was bundled with my external DVD drive, and that works well for what I have needed it to do.

When I need to burn data files, I can use Nero Express or windows. I have found that the Verbatim CDs also work reliably for data storage for archived files.

I am using a Dell Dimension 8400, approximately 3 years old, with 4MB ram. My operating system is Windows XP, service pack 2.

So I can recommend this media for excellent reliability at a great price.
