Perfect Humidifier for a Bedroom - Quiet and Efficient - sensor shows current humidity
Pros:
Super quiet; efficient. Display shows current humidity and allows variable settings.
Cons:
Only comes in white / blue.
The Bottom Line:
I would absolutely 100% recommend this humidifier. I have tried many others that broke, were loud, got gummed up, and dripped. This is quiet, simple, efficient and leak-free.

Author's Review
I have had a closet full of used, broken, and poorly performing humidifiers. Some of them have stained wicks, some have mineral deposits that look like a sandbox. So, when purchasing my next humidifier, I looked for certain features:
1) Larger, but not hideously large tank.
2) Ultrasonic humidifier unit.
3) Sturdy design.
4) Easily cleaned.
Not only did the Venta Sonic meet all of my needs, but there are also extra features that I didn't know you could get for just $99.
Venta is a German company that manufactures a variety of high quality air purifiers and humidifiers. This is actually one of their entry-level units.
Construction is solid; tank is about 2 gallons, which is just right. Water tank has a large mouth for filling, and does not leak.
Setup and operation is quick and easy. Reading the manual was not necessary but is recommended. The great part is that you can select the both the level of humidity and whether you get warm or cool mist. The bright green display shows you the current relative humidity. You then select a desired humidity of 30% - 60% in 5% increments; or you can set it on continuous. You can also select the level of mist flow among three settings. The mist vent adjusts 360 degrees, so that you can direct the humidity where you need it (and away from walls and furniture).
The efficiency is the best feature, in my opinion. I got tired of the machines with smaller tanks, that require filling daily. I have this set up in an approximately 400 square foot room (it's rated for 600 square feet) with a setting of 55% humidity. I only need to refill it every other day.
Safety - this humidifier has a silver antimicrobial/antifungal filter built into the tank. Again, many of the previous machines I have used have looked like germ warfare petri dishes after continual use. Silver is supposed to inhibit growth...
Cleaning is simple. The humidity is created by a small metal disc that vibrates ultrasonically. You only need to clean it once every few weeks, depending on the mineral content of your water. There is a brush provided for this, which stores conveniently inside the machine. There is also a water filter that requires replacement every 4 months to a year, depending on what the usage is. The purpose is to filter the mineral content of the water to prevent scaling; which is a major issue with humidifiers I've owned in the past. I haven't had it long enough to know how long mine will last.
