DO NOT FEAR, FOR I AM WITH YOU!

My 2-½ year old son started watching cartoons a few months ago, so my husband and I decided to purchase a video for his Christmas stocking. We wanted to get him a video that would not only entertain him or teach him moral values; we wanted something that would teach him about God. After comparing the different videos in catalogs, we decided to purchase a Veggie Tales video. When we saw Where’s God When I’m S-Scared, we knew that this would be the perfect video for our son. He was going through a phase where he was scared of almost everything!

Where’s God When I’m S-Scared starts with Bob the tomato and Larry the cucumber receiving a letter from a little girl because she sometimes gets scared. They then tell us about Jr. Asparagus. He watched a scary movie before going to bed and was too frightened to go to sleep. Bob and Larry visited him to help calm his fears. They sing God is Bigger Than the Boogie Man to him. Bob and Larry explain to Jr. Asparagus that God is bigger than anything he fears and that God made him special and will take care of him is. Once his fears are calmed Jr. Asparagus is able to go to sleep.

Silly Songs With Larry is next as an intermission. Larry sings Everyone Has a Water Buffalo. Archibald gets upset and stops Larry. This segment is very funny and entertaining.

Daniel and the Lion’s Den is the Bible story for this video. The king has a dream that the wise men can’t interpret, so Daniel (played by Larry) is called. Daniel interprets the dream and receives a position of honor from the king. The wise men are jealous and plot to destroy Daniel. They sing Oh No, my favorite song in this video. The wise men convince the king to make a new law making it illegal to pray to anyone other than the king. Daniel continues to pray to God and breaks the law. The punishment is being thrown into a den of lions. Daniel is afraid until he remembers that God is with him and taking care of him. When the king and the wise men go to the den of lions the next morning they find Daniel alive and well. He thanks the lions for the pizza, an example of the humor that your children will appreciate. The king changes the law to say that everyone will only pray to Daniel’s God.

This video has something extra that I have not seen in many Children’s videos, How does this apply to our lives today? Bob and Larry talk about what we has learned today. Jr. Asparagus has learned that God is bigger than anything that he fears and that God made him special and will take care of him is. Daniel already knew that God loved him and would take care of him, but he had the chance to experience it! Qwerty, Bob and Larry’s computer, also has a Bible verse for us: Do Not Fear, For I Am With You.

Your child will love this video! It will entertain him and teach him. The Bible story is accurate although all the details are not related in this video because of the limited time available. The animation is excellent and the songs are superb! I think that this video would make an excellent gift for children of any age. I enjoy watching it as much as my son does!
