Author's Review
A good friend of mine has a 3 year old that adores Veggie Tales, and since we are both Christian moms, I value her choice of entertainment for her kids. When my first son was 1, I bought him his first Veggie Tales video, and he LOVES IT! I have watched it with him, and it is actually a pretty cute story, and it's Biblical. This is important to me because there are not very many cute, funny videos out there that teach morals at the same time.
I love all the Veggie Tale videos I've seen, and so does my son, but he really likes this one. I don't think it would be too much to say this one is his favorite. All I have to do is ask him "do you want to watch Veggie Tales"? And he runs to the TV clapping his hands. He can't even SAY "Veggie Tales", but he loves it!
The Story
This story is BigIdea's version of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They call them Rack, Shack, and Benny just because it's easier to say and more appealing. The story is a Bible story, but it helps kids understand and deal with Peer Pressure.
Rack, Shack and Benny work in a chocolate factory that is owned and run by the infamous Mr. Nezzer. In the words of the narrator, "Mr. Nezzer is not a bad man, he just gets a little confused sometimes." Rack, Shack and Benny are hard working employees, but when faced with a tough decision, they have to think for themselves and do what is right. They find this to be difficult, and have to exercise faith in the choice they make. Mr. Nezzer is not pleased with their decision, and punishes them likewise. However, before the story is over, the boys' decision to do right affects Mr. Nezzer and the entire chocolate factory for the good. Tune in to see the rest of this adorable story.
Rack, Shack and Benny take a stand for what is right, when everyone else falls to peer pressure. They do however suffer consequences. They are thrown into a fiery furnace for taking a stand, but God saves them from the fire. This Bible story teaches all of us a valuable lesson.
The Bible teaches us to do what is right, even if it is difficult. God promises to always take care of us because He loves us. As His Children, we are commanded to always do what is honest and right.
The Lesson
The story is right on, and is a good lesson for kids. I definitely want my son to get this lesson. It's important that we teach our kids to stand up for what they believe in, and to always do what is 'right' no matter what the consequences are.
When your child is faced with peer pressure, how do you want them to react? This story instills godly values and morals to help our kids know right from wrong, no matter what beliefs you have.
The Music
What would a kids video be without catchy tunes? NOTHING! Well, Veggie Tales does not disappoint when it comes to the music department. They provide tunes that are all too catchy and fun. Sometimes it is too addictive as my husband and I catch ourselves singing the songs! LOL But the songs are really cute and funny, and they are very original.
In the midst of all the Veggie Tales stories, there is always an intermission type segment called "Silly Songs With Larry". Larry is one of the hosts (a cucumber) and narrators, and these segments find him in funny situations. These silly songs are sure to make you laugh every time!
Purchasing Veggie Tales Videos
I recommend the Veggie Tales' Videos to any moms out there looking for good entertainment for their little ones, but especially to any Christian moms that can't find anything of value.
The Veggie Tales video series consists of about 10 videos, and they are sold in any Christian Bookstore, Wal Mart/K Mart, video stores and several online stores. For more information on purchasing a Veggie Tales video, go to www.veggietales.com. There you will find any and all information you could ever want to know about these movies! This is one of the best investments I have made so far for my son's entertainment.
WE LOVE VEGGIE TALES!
